5 DO’s

&
5 DON’Ts
FOR FIRST YEARS
BY TYSON PULA
DO: Make new friends at university

 Making friends is a golden rule in order to

keep university fun and refreshing if you
don’t already find university fun without
friends.
 Remember that we are all in the same
boat and that we should help each other
grow and persevere.
DO: Be Prepared

Set study goals

Make a study plan with dates of
tests or assignments
Fulfil plan to your best ability
DO: Learn to balance your life.

 Get a hobby and find a positive

distraction that will help relieve stress
 Eat meals that are healthy for the
body and mind
 Learn when to say no to social events
DO: Download Helpful Apps

 Types of apps include:

 Meditation apps
 Fitness apps
 Weight watching apps
 Calendar apps

 These will integrate resources into your phone that will better your
chances of success in your first year.
DO: Remember your WHY

 Thisis important as it is your why that drives

you to reach your goal in university. If you
don’t have your why your chances aren’t
as high as those who do because they are
fighting for their success.
DON’T: Be a Party Animal

 Partying twenty-four seven is a horrible way to carry out

your first year.
 You could be sleep deprived resulting in less likely to
absorb the content from the lectures
 You could become sick meaning you could miss
valuable days and valuable information
DON’T: Go out with everyone in
your cohort
 This will lead to most people resenting you
as it builds only dramas and jealousy
which is unhealthy for a learning
environment.
 In addition to this, performing study groups
will be much harder as it would again
disturb the learning environment making it
uncomfortable.
DON’T: Start Fights

 Thisa massive negative as it would ruin the

entire environment as physical clashes
may leave an impact that could separate
a cohort in the first year.
DON’T: Steal Others Work

 Plagiarism is a massive negative especially

in first year.
 Itwill not only ruin your work but it could
also effect them as they may get their
worked taken off them leading to both
individuals failing.
DON’T: Over Stress

 Remember this is your first year and its not

one to be taken lightly but always
remember that stress out will not solve
anything so make sure to find a way to
release the stress
