INTRODUTION
 The pulverizer is a rugged machine, designed and built for continuous
operation over an extended period, with minimal wear on the working parts.
Wear of pulveriser parts depends on many factors that vary from one
installation to another. Characteristics of the fuel, operating hours of
individual pulverisers, availability of pulveriser due to unit load demands,
and maintenance force availability are all factors that determine the
frequency and scheduling of pulveriser inspection and maintenance. The
development and perfection of pulverized fuel firing for commercial use is
one of the milestones after which the steam generating the capacity for
boiler could be increased as desired. The factor influencing the type of firing
to be adopted on a boiler is basically the evaporation capacity which
depends on pulveriser on a boiler is basically the evaporation capacity
which depends on pulverize ultimately. The basic advantage of pulverized
coal fire is a higher thermal efficiency, lower labour cost and flexibility in
operation. The best features of all the pulverisers have been incorporated in
Bowl Mill. This is widely used nowadays.
 Beside this availability of mills for operation is the main deciding factor for
the plant load factor. It’s possible to generate full capacity from thermal units
if the required mills are operated at near full capacity.

 TUBE MILL :
 Advantages of Ball Tube Mills include high
availability, low maintenance, constant capacity
and fineness, hard and abrasive fuels ground
efficiently, large reserve capacity, increased
fineness at low loads, fast response over load
range, low air to coal ratio, ability to pulverize a
wide range of coals, virtually unaffected by
foreign material, flexibility of available capacity.
 Salient features include :
 Horizontal type slow speed in the range of 13-20 rpm.
 Pulverisation of Coal by attrition and by impact of hard
balls.
 Speed reduction achieved by gear train consisting of
reduction gear box and large spur gear.
 Coal can be fed and removed from both sides of the mill.
 Half mill operation for partial loads allowed.
 Input coal size 25 mm while output is 70 to 90 microns
 Very high coal fineness achievable.
Transporting the fuel to the
furnace
 Mixture of hot and cold primary air enters the mill side housing and is
swirled inside the mill and carry pulverized coal upward into the Classifier
opening at the top of the mill. Then it comes out through the ventury and the
multiport outlet assembly. As air passes swirles around the mill, it picks up
the partially pulverized coal. The heavier particles strike the separator body
liners and are returned to the mill through reject pipe immediately for further
grinding. The lighter particles are carried up through the deflector opening.
 The deflector blades in the opening impart the spinning action to the
material with the degree of spin set by angle of opening of the blades,
determining the sized of the pulverized coal. Any oversized coal particles is
returned down the inside of the inner cone leaves the mill and enters the
pulverized fuel pipe and finally enters into the furnace through coal burner
which are connected at four corner of the boiler.
 Orifice plates are installed in the coal piping leaving the pulverize discharge
valves to compensate for unequal resistance to flow due to different lengths
/ bends of piping to the burners.
