•Saint Justin de Jacobis
•Justin De Jacobis, C.M. (October 9,
1800 - July 31, 1860) served as
Vincentian missionary to Ethiopia, Africa
from 1839 until his death. Between 1839
and 1860 he worked in northern
Ethiopia, mainly in Tegray. On July 25,
1939, he was beatified and canonized as
a saint on October 26, 1975.

EARLY LIFE
•He was born on 9 October 1800 in San
Fele, a village south of Naples, Italy. His
family was quite wealthy. Later on, his
father did not manage the family finances
very well, and the family suffered as a
result.
•When Justin was coming to the
end of his secondary education, he
told a Carmelite priest, named Fr.
Mariano Cacace, a friend of his
mother’s, that he wanted to be a
priest.
•He entered the Congregation of
the Mission on October 17, 1818,
at the age of 18. He was good
seminarian. He took vows on
October 18, 1820 and was
ordained at Brindisi, Italy on June
12, 1824.
PRIESTHOOD LIFE
• He was sent to work as a missionary, preaching, hearing
confessions, visiting the sick, giving conferences and
retreats especially to the priest.
• He was ordained as bishop.
• He was humble because he did not want to become
bishop but his superior general convince him.
• A man of charity and perseverance.
• A man of gentle and prudence
•He helped the victim of Cholera
epidemic in Naples.
•He was sent to Abyssinia, Africa
and he lived a life of real poverty.
•He aimed at the rapid growth of
God’s word.
•The Abyssinian natural leader
ordered the persecution of the
Catholics.
•He was arrested and
imprisoned.
•He became weak and got
sick.
•He died on July 31, 1860 at
the age of 59.
