Thermal Comfort :
 Metabolic activities dissipates heat from the
body.
 Insufficient Heat loss is called "Hyper thermia"
and Excessive heat loss is "Hypo thermia".
 Skin temperature less than 180C and more than
450C causes pain.

Energy Balance in Body :
M - W = qsk + qres + S
Where,
 M = Rate of metabolic heat production.
 W = Rate of mechanical work accomplished.
 qsk = Heat loss from skin.
 qres = Heat loss through respiration.
S = Total heat storage in skin and core components.

Secondary factors affecting
Comfort :
 Day-to-Day variations,
 Age,
 Adaptation,
 Sex,
 Seasonal &
 Circadian Rhythms.

Indoor Enviornmental Health :
 Assessing and controlling factors in the indoor
enviornment that can potentially affect health.
 Diseases are caused by genetics and exposures.
The contaminants in non industrial environment
are:
 Volatile Organic compounds.
 Semi Volatile Organic compounds.
 Refrigerants.
 Inorganic gases.
 CO , CO2 , NO2 , SO2 , O3 , etc.

Air Contaminants :
2 TYPES :
 Particles
 Gases
 Particles dispersed in air are also known as
aerosols or airborne particle.
 Particles may be liquid, solid or have a solid core
surrounded by liquid.

contaminants that can exist as free molecules
or atoms in air.

 Toxicity,
 Irritation
 Odor
 Material damage.
