CHAPTER 10

1. Name
Synopsis
• Mr.Schermer give Richard the newspaper
Richard read how Mr.Kilmer was killed.
• Richard runs to his favourite oak tree. He climbs
to he highest branch and sobs.
• He is frustrated that poetry could not prevent
Mr.Kilmer from being killed and it could not
stop this war from happening.
• Richard goes home and write his tribute to
Sergant Joyce Kilmer. He wants to share it with
the Schermers.
• Richard read his poem to the Schermers.
• Mrs.Schermer suggest that he get his poem
printed it the ‘The Turtle Lake Weekly’, The local
newspaper.
• Richard gives his poem to Mr.Garrison, the
newspaper’s owner. He tell Hannah that he is afraid
to embarass his father further and make him mad.

• Fews day later, Richar’s father looks at the


newspaper.

• Richard says he does mad and quickly goes to his


bedroom. He worries that his father will be angry
when he sees his poem.

• Then, Richard ‘s father comes into his bedroom and


talks his brother ,Roland, to him.
• Richard’s father sobs that he kept repeating , “ a
world is dead and gone!” when Roland was
burried.

• Richard comfort him. Now, both Richard and his


father understand why he writes poems.

• His poem are a regular feature in “The Turtle Lake


Weekly”. Every night , Richard reads his poems
aloud for the correct or give suggestion to improve
them. For the knight family, all has ended well.
