BBC Host – Nick Grimshaw
• In 2007, Nick Grimshaw joined BBC Radio 1 I September 2007 to present the BBC’s
youth strand Switch alongside with his friend and fellow DJ Annie Mac. In 2012
Nicholas Peter Andrew Grimshaw who was born on the 14th August, 1984 became the
host of The Radio 1 Breakfast Show. He hosts the show from 6:30 until 10 am. Since
joining the career of a host he has hosted a range of shows on BBC Radio 1.

• Radio 1’s Weekend Breakfast Show was hosted from October 2008 up until May 2009.
Grimshaw was then sent to present the 20pm to midnight slot on BBC Radio 1 on June
2009, following the departure of Colin Murray.

• On 11th July 2012 it was announced that Nick will be replacing Chris Moyle’s as host
of The Radio 1 Breakfast Show. It targets its audience by interviewing famous
celebrities and talking about the most intriguing topics. They can listen to the show
through radio, whilst in a car and mobile devices.

• Nick always makes sure that they’re prepared for the show. It is vital for
them to make sure the sound is brilliant and know what they could talk
about throughout the whole show as their scripts are never fully prepared. It
is forbidden for BBC to mention any brands as it would be a type of

played in order to entertain their public.
Mode of address / Target audience
• Mode of address is the ways in which media reaches for their audiences. One
of the modes are ‘Formal and Informal’. For example formal is presented in a
classical music. Informal is when the media text uses a variety of words
which can be abbreviated. So Colloquial language is used within the radio
station as Nick tries to speak in the way his audience speaks. The influence
which mode of address has is the target audience as well as the genre of
what they are speaking about.

• Audiences are placed into three different groups in order to be able to


inform, educate and entertain them the right way. The three groups are;

1. Demographics – who are the audience?

2. Psychographics – what do they like, enjoy and believe in?

3. Lifestyle groupings – what are the audiences promised by the text?


• The target audience for the show is averaged between the ages of 15 and 29
due to their music appealing mainly towards younger audiences alongside
introducing a range of games to keep the listeners entertained and be able to
interact with them. Informal language is occasionally used when hosting the
show, the reason to this is to suit the younger audiences. The audiences aged
20-29 focus on more important things than celebrities so therefore ick also
covers traffic updates as well as the weather.

• It Is important for them to entertain and involve a wide range of young


listeners with a unique mix of contemporary music and speech.

• Due to the target audience being 15-29 year olds, it is vital for them to
provide some programming which would be suitable for younger teenagers.

cover areas such as news, documentaries as well as advice campaigns.
