What is data?

also be considered a data.
What is Database?
• It is an organized collection of data
that is related to a particular subject
or purpose.
• Manual Database
– Might be found on top of someone’s desk
– May be difficult to sort
– Manually find the record and physically make
changes
• Electronic Database
– Might be found in your cell phone
– Sorted easily
– Electronically find the record and enter the new
over the old.
What is DBMS?
• A computerized electronic
database is more commonly known
as a Database Management
System.
• It is a program that controls the
organization, storage, retrieval,
security and integrity of data in a
database.
Examples of DBMS
• It is commonly used in the grocery,
department store checkout counter. It
records your transaction and
generates updated reports for the
store owner or manager.
• It allows you to conduct banking
transactions such as withdrawing and
depositing money using your account
or transferring money from your
savings to your checking account or
vice versa.
• It allows you to see details or
description of flights, customers,
bookings, and reservations.
• It is often used in warehouse
operations to monitor the quantity,
locations, and status of products.
• It is often used by schools to
automate the computation of tuition
and other school fees. It may also
have interfaces for other DBMS like
scheduling and grading system.
• It is designed to compute for the
monthly or net salaries, and
deductions. This is known to be
convenient and accurate.
