INTRODUCTION
 Availability of natural aggregates is gradually dwindling and natural
aggregates are also becoming costly. The depletion of natural reserves of
sand used in the construction industry and the disposal of agricultural and
industrial wastes in the environment has been of great concern to mankind
in the last few decades due to the environmental impact arising from these
activities. In the last decade, there has been increased global agitation on
the need for green construction.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
 The different effects of iron filing in the concrete and its effect in the
environment
 To study the reduction of the disposal, disposal cost and potential
pollution problems along with the achievement of resource
conservation.
OBJECTIVES
 To study the different strength of concrete by partially adding
different percentage of iron filing as replacement to the sand
and how it will react to the curing of the concrete. Try to
compare the results of the test that were made with iron filing
and compare it to the conventional one.
 To save environment by using the excess iron filling not only
in the construction site but also in the plant that produces
steel instead of throwing it into landfill we will try to use it by
partially replacing sand with it.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

RESEARCH PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
 This research presents the study of compressive strength
and split tensile strength of a conventional concrete by
adding different percentage of iron filing on the sand, tests
were conducted on concrete cylinders to study compressive
and split tensile strengths.
MATERIALS
Materials that are used for this study comprised of cement,
fine aggregates (gravel), iron filings, and water. Necessary
tests were carried out for each materials
CEMENT
Cement is a binder substance that can bind other material
together we will try different amount of cement on the mixture
to found which of the amount is much better.
SAND
We will usehe fine aggregate passed through sieve #4
(4.75 mm) and predominately retained on sieve # 200 (75 um)
.
GRAVEL
Gravel is one of the main components of concrete
composite materials. We will try different size of gravel and
compare it with one another. The gravel has a specific gravity
of 2.74, bulk density 1600 kg/m3 and the fineness modulus
equal to 6.2.
Iron filings
We will try to use the excess iron filings in the site or get
some in the steel factory, we will use iron filings as partial
replacement of sand in the concrete mixture. The iron filing
has a specific gravity, bulk density and the fineness modulus
with 3.56, 2168 kg/m3, and 2.3, respectively

Water
A clean water is used for mixing process and curing. The
used water should be applied according to the mix proportion
design.
METHODOLOGY
 We gathered all the materials and information we needed.
 We will try first the mixture with adding no sand at first and
check its strength.
 We will get the slump test of the different mixture to
measure the consistency of the concrete.
 Next we will add different percentage of sand to the mixture
and we will test the samples at three different days of
curing (7, 14, 28) days.
 Get the different strength of the mixture with different
percentage and different days of curing with one another
and compare to get the best suitable mixture that is
required.
