Background of Malay
• These early aboriginal group
are now call as (Orang Asli)
• Totally have eighteen groups,
officially classified is
(Negrito, Senoi, and Proto-
Malay).
• The first reached this
peninsula is around 2000 B.C.

• In this peninsula, their number are small, just only making up in
total around 120,000 or 0.5 percent of Malaysia’s total population.
• From the earliest time, the different situations in different place
such as coming from Indian, middle east, china, western are
influences the most reshape their culture.
• The Malay now are the most of the largest group of Malay
peninsula and neighbors territories which is island of Sumatra.

• In Malaysia is call (Bahasa Melayu).

• Austronesia ethic group language spoken in Malaysia, Indonesia,


Singapore, Brunei and Thailand.

• The total number of speaker Standard Malay is 18 million.

Malay men costume
• Baju Melayu is the traditional Malay outfit for men. They must
wear Baju Melayu during Hari Raya because it is their traditional
outfit to celebrate the occasions.
• It is classified into two types which is Baju Teluk Belanga and
Baju Cekak Musang.
• They will worn with a sarong or woven silk in feasts and Friday
prayers.

Malay women costume
• There’s also have two types of “baju” for Malay women which is
baju kurung and baju kebaya.
• Normally,Malay women wear baju kurung because cannot wear
too tight to show that figure, it is accordance to Islam’s hijab.

• Skirt goes down to the ground, and the


tunic goes up to the neck with a little
slit in the front by the neck.
• A knee-length blouse worn over a long
skirt.

• The top is also long but also fitting.
• The skirt/sarong is long, but tailored to
be fitting.
• The tunic is more short.

(Congkak)
 Congkak is a mancala game, which is meaning is
gemstone chess.
 This game actually origin in Malaysia, Singapore,
Indonesia and Thailand.
• Before that we believed the originate word Malay
“Congak” which is now we all pronouns as Congkak.
• Therefore, Congak also had a special meaning which is
“mental calculation”.

Rules and Regulation
• First, both players will start to pick up all the mancala
at the same in any house.
• Each mancala will put into the next house with
clockwise.
• Other side player will put mancala into their own
warehouse but they will not put any mancala into
match competitive warehouse.
• If the player who purposely drop mancala to opponent
house, the opponent house has the right to take away.

During Fasting Festival (Puasa)
• This festival normally celebrate before Hari Raya AidilFitri.

• While fasting is on dawn until sunset.

- Food, drinking liquids, smoking and
engaging sexual relation.
• Their food and drink are served daily
before dawn and after sunset,
referred to as Suhoor and Iftar
respectively.

43 CELEBRATE HARI RAYA ADIL FITRI.

• After one month of fasting festival, will continued celebrate


Hari Raya Aidil Fitri.
• Adil Fitri is the first day if Islamic month of shawwal and marks
the end of month Ramadhan.
• Many muslim will attend communal prayers, listen to khutba
(sermon) and give zakat al-Fitri (charity in the form of food).

Open House

 Generally, it is customary for some Muslim families to


host ‘rumah terbuka’ or ‘open house’ to welcome
neighbours and member to celebrate together.
 Where they can enjoy festive food such as curry chicken,
mutton rendang chicken satay, ketupat(rice cake),
lemang(glutinouns rice).
 And the most famous drink is rose syrup and bandung.

 Muslims usually travels back to their hometown three day or a


week before Hari Raya Adilifitri to avoid heavy traffics.

 The last reminder for you all when drive back to hometown,
