FORM AND CONTENT
• Jakobson claim that only poetry ‘by definition can’t be translated,in
translation between sense/content on the one hand and form/style
on the other.
• Content is sense that is appeared in the product ( target language )
and acceptable. The content may be translated.
• Form is style of language. it is related to cultural background of SL.
It often cannot be translated. For example in poetry ,song and
advertising.

• Example : My body is not delicious


I’m not well
LITERAL AND FREE
• Literal translation is source-language biased. Literal translation is
done by word-for-word. The concept of it are lexical and syntactic
properties of SL. It sometimes , force the language of SL to TL

• Free translation is target-language biased. Free focus on the


whole idea that consider the sense of translation.
COMPREHENSIBILITY AND TRANSLATABILITY
• Translatability is relative idea of the whole text although there is a
differences in linguistic structure ( grammar , vocabulary, etc ) ,
but meaning still be conveyed across language.

• Comprehensibility is meaning can be conveyed not only in term of


what SL contains, but also the equivalent of the word in term of
such factor as communicative purpose, target audience and the
purpose of translation.
