REGARDING EXCLUSIVE BREAST

INTRODUCTION

 Colombo south teaching hospital is one of major hospital in Sri Lanka


which is established in Dehiwala Mount Lavinia municipal council.
 Thirty three wards and many of special units are there. Total beds about
1083. Monthly total admissions around 13000. The Director is the head and
Deputy Directors, Hospital secretary ,have the authority of administration.
 Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, MLTs, Paramedical staff, Health care
assistance, Midwives, Cleaning and Security Staff ….etc many of professional
categories are providing service there.
 When we considering maternity section there are 3 ANC units, 3 PNC
Units,3 Pediatric units ,2 Special care baby units, 3 Operation theaters and a
Lactation unit .As well as 7 consultants 70 of Nursing officers,30 Midwives,
are providing service there.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

 Conduct a interactive and knowledge shearing


work shop regarding exclusive breast feeding
with relevant resource person.
 Developed knowledge and attitudes of the
health care providers.
 Improve quality of the Teaching Hospital
Kalubowila maternity section Health care
Service.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

 Assess the knowledge of nurses and midwives


regarding breast feeding
 Aware the nurses on exclusive breast feeding
 Demonstrate how practice
 Evaluate the knowledge and skills of participants
JUSTIFICATION
 There are several delayed discharges in post
natal wards due to reduce urine out put and
icterus babies and also some percentage are
depend on formula milk.

JUSTIFICATION CONTINUE
Not only that, there are many admissions to
pediatric wards due to following details.

JUSTIFICATION CONTINUE

According to above table,

There are lot of health education programs in field


and hospital clinics , there is a weak point in some
where which we should solve.
Since we conducted a work shop regarding exclusive
breast feeding for the health staff at post natal
wards to solve that problem to a some extend.

of the lecture.

W - Lack of training for Staff.


Staff negative attitudes for participate lectures.
Staff heavy work load.
