Why An Other Technique

Digital Mammography is currently the most advanced technique in breast cancer

detection.
However, it still presents a lack of sensitivity and
specificity, especially with dense breasts.
Sometimes, in two-dimensional representation,
it is difficult to read mammographic images.

The tissue superimposition created by the overlap of

normal breast structures can obscure a lesion making
it more difficult to perceive.

VOLUMETRIC SYSTEMS
Other diagnostic imaging modalities such as CT and MR, are currently using a
volumetric imaging system (Tomography) which minimizes the risk of misreading
in case overlapping tissues.

This volumetric system has been applied to

and gave birth to Digital Breast Tomosynthesis
(DBT).

DIGITAL BREAST TOMOSYNTHESIS

A Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) system measures X-ray transmission through
the compressed breast over a limited range of angles, followed by reconstruction of
a series of images of the breast reconstructed for different heights above the
detector.

DIGITAL BREAST TOMOSYNTHESIS

A DBT system incorporates the same detector used in conventional 2D full field
digital mammography (FFDM) and an X-ray tube that rotates above this detector.

Only X-ray tube moves in an arc across the

GENERATOR
Digital Mammo 10 DBT is equipped with a X-RAY generator with a new Inverter
integrated with filament board. In this way the system is capable of providing a power
up to 7.5 kW.

COMBO MODE

Choosing the COMBO mode, the operator can acquire 3D+2D digital mammograms
with an overall dose lower of “EUREF” limits for conventional mammography.

In COMBO mode, the tomosynthesis scan is automatically followed by a 2D view during

the same compression.

ANTI-SCATTER GRID
Helianthus DBT uses a special anti-scatter grid, fabricated based on the semiconductor
process, that allows to obtain a homogeneous exposure distribution.

The image quality improves considerably, with dose values that satisfy “EUREF”
Protocol requirements.

The use of grid for any exam, except the magnification views, makes Helianthus DBT a
fast and complete solution to obtain excellent diagnostic images in 2D screening, 3D
tomosynthesis and stereotactic biopsy.

COMPRESSION SYSTEM
The “Smart µPress” compression device has been redesigned with a new coupling
system for the paddles.

This system recognizes the inserted compression

paddle in order to adapt automatically the
collimation format.

A top rotating knob allows to lock/unlock the compression

paddle easily and in full safety. The lock/unlock status is
monitored by the unit and shown by a LED and on
touchscreen displays.

X-RAY COLLIMATION SYSTEM AND

AUTOMATIC FILTER
Digital Mammo 10 DBT is equipped with an advanced X-ray collimation system.

In case of 2D exams, the system detects the format/position of compression paddle

and selects automatically the proper collimation field.

The device includes an automatic filter with three different materials (Rhodium, Silver
and Aluminium). The optimal combination tungsten anode/filter allows to obtain the
minimum dose and the best quality image over all ranges of breast density. Rh and Ag
filters are dedicated to 2D images. Al filter is used only in Tomo.

All parts of the X-ray collimation system can be calibrated via software.

DYNAMIC X-RAY COLLIMATION SYSTEM

In case of 3D exams, a dynamic system executes a trapezoidal correction of collimation
to compensate the X-ray beam distortion during a tomo scan.

DUAL MODE AUTOMATIC EXPOSURE

CONTROL (AEC)
PRE-exposure is tissue composition based and exposure parameters are
averaged over a mosaic of 96 sensitive areas (ROI) automatically selected in
function of breast size and projection.

It has dual mode: PRE and FAST.

FAST exposure is based on compressed breast thickness. Exposure sequence is

FASTer than PRE-exposure and gives comparable results in all operating
conditions including special cases with breast implants and surgical metal

PCB/05-190 receives the x-ray command and parameters from the cpu
and then handles the complete x-ray sequence.

The low and high speed are selected depending on operating

technique.
