Globalization &

Trade
BY: KARTIK OBEROI
What is globalization?

 Globalization, or the increased interconnectedness and

interdependence of peoples and countries. It includes:
 The opening of international borders to increasingly fast flows of goods,
services, finance, people and ideas
 The changes in institutions and policies at national and international
levels that facilitate or promote such flows.
 Globalization has the potential for both positive and negative
effects on development and health
What is trade?

 Trade refers to buying and selling of goods and services between

two or more parties.
 Goods that are brought into a country are called imports and those
that are sold to another country are called exports.
 Trade can be international or domestic.
 Example of domestic trade:
 Trade of Apples: From Kashmir to rest of India
 Example of international trade:
 Vox Trade route: China’s initiative to recreate the Silk route.
Effect of globalization on trade

 Globalization has many effects on international trade, a few are:

 Interconnectedness:
 Globalization has resulted in greater interconnectedness among markets
around the world and increased communication between distant countries
 Products and services previously available within one country are made
available to new markets outside the country.
 Technology and Efficiency:
 Globalization pushed us to create better systems to enable international
trade at a faster rate.
 Increased efficiency in global trade and reduced cost and time. Production
processes have become more efficient due to globalization as companies
want to maintain their competitive advantage.
