Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus ,
situated on the south boulevard
of Pondicherry
It is an oriental specimen of Gothic
architecture
The construction of the new church started in
1902 at the Southern side of Pondicherry.
The construction was completed in 1907
The main material used in the
church was bricks with well ground lime-sand
mix.
SACRED HEART OF It is a big church and can accommodate 2000
people
JESUS BASILICA
This 100 years old historical church is 50 m long, 48 m wide
and 18 m high with Latin rite cross shape in aerial view is in
Gothic style. 24 main columns hold the structure.
This 100-year-old church has been led by twenty parish
priests.
The construction was completed around 1907.

Built almost three hundred and Fifty years ago, the
Meerapalli (as known locally) is the second oldest
Mosque in the whole of Pondicherry.
The architecture of the Meeran Mosque is quite unique.
MEERAN Built by the Arcot Nawabs, the basic structure of the
Meeran Mosque follows a Gothic Islamic style. The
MOSQUE Dome of the Mosque is supported by four lofty Pillars
and the Meerhath and the member are located very
near it. Just above the Meerhath is the Kalima Slab. In
order to enhance the beauty of the facade minaret a
Bronze Kallasa is placed on the top of the structure.
Next to the mosque is the resting place of the divine
graves of Meeran, the one who built the Mosque, and
of Suubhi Errai Perriar Mullah.
The office of the Pondicherry Haj Committee as well as
the Pondicherry State WAKF Board is located next to the
mosque.

Khuthbapalli is an 18th century mosque of
Pondicherry.
Khuthbapalli is believed to be the first
mosque built in Pondicherry, though not at its
present location but in the White Town of
Pondicherry.
The basic structure of the khuthba mosque
follows Indo Islamic style.
Khuthbapalli functions as the Markaz or the
Headquarters of Tablighi Jamaat's
KHUTHBA Pondicherry Chapter.

CHINNA MANI KUNDU /PETITE TOWER CLOCK
Before the middle of the twentieth century, most people did
not have watches.
Prior to the 18th century even home clocks were rare.
The first clocks didn't have faces, but were solely striking
clocks, which sounded bells to call the surrounding community
to work or to prayer.
They were therefore placed in towers so the bells would be
audible for a long distance.
Clock towers were placed near the centre of towns and were
often the tallest structures there.
As clock towers became more common, the designers realized
that a dial on the outside of the tower would allow the
townspeople to read the time whenever they want

DUPLEIX STATUE
Marquis Joseph Francois Dupleix was an integral part of
Puducherry's colonial past.
He was the governor of Puducherry between 1742 and 1754.
The statue was first erected at the present site of the Nehru
statue on 16 July 1870.
Later, in 1979, the 2.88m tall statue of Dupleix was moved to
its current location at the southern end of the park
Restoration of the Dupleix statue was undertaken by the
Public Works Department (PWD) of the government of
Puducherry in 2014.
AMBEDKAR MANIMANDAPAM
Ambedkar Manimandapam built on 4th
December 2008 is located on the Beach
Road.
It is located at a distance of about 3 Kms
from Bus Stand.
It was built in the remembrance of Late
Ambedkar, as a symbol of social equality.
