Today there are many diverse methods of artificial birth control,
most commonly used method still comes in pill form:
Effectiveness of Artificial Method of Contraceptive:
 There is NO such thing as a contraception method that offers 100%
protection against pregnancy, because there is ALWAYS a risk even
one in a thousand that an accident could happen, be it rupture of a
condom or human error.
 The more careful and consistent you are, the higher is the
contraceptive effectiveness for each method. For example, a careless
use of condoms can make the effectiveness rate drop to nearly 85%.
Methods of Contraception
Folk methods
• Precoital/Poscoital Douche
• Prolonged Lactation
• Withdrawal-coitus interruptos, coitus reservatus
Mechanical methods
• Condom
• Diaphragm
• Sponge
Chemical methods
• Vaginal suppositories and tablets
• Vaginal jellies, creams, and foams
• Precoital- occurring before or as a preliminary to sexual intercourse
“precoital play”.

• Poscoital douche- is to physically remove spermatozoa from the vagina

by cleansing action, sperm may be found in the endocervix beyond the
reach of the douche solution within 90 seconds after ejaculation.

• Withdrawal- oldest form of birth control in the planet. The guy pulls out
before he ejaculates or some people call withdrawal the “ pull out method”
Mechanical Methods
• Condom- a thin rubber worn on a man's penis during sexual intercourse
as a contraceptive or as a protection against infection.

• Diaphragm- placed inside the vagina so that it prevents sperm from

getting into the uterus. It is inserted at least six hours before sex and
needs to removed after 24 hours for cleaning.

• Sponge- is small, round-shaped foam placed deep inside the vagina. It

contains spermicide so that sperm does not get past the foam. It is
inserted at least six hours before sex and needs to removed after 24
hours to avoid toxic shock.
Chemical Methods

• Vaginal Suppositories & Tablets- are solid medications that are

inserted into the vagina with a special applicator. They work faster than
medications you take by mouth because it melt inside the body and
absorb directly into the bloodstream.

• Vaginal creams foams and jellies- medicated dosage forms for topical
application in the vagina. A cream is a semisolid emulsion containing
suspended or dissolved medication;a foam is a dispersion of a gas in
medicated liquid resulting in a light, frothy mass; a jelly is a colloidal
semisolid mass of water soluble medicated material, usually transluccent
