Urban Planning in Ankara

Of all major Turkish cities, Ankara has

undoubtedly had the richest urban
planning experience. The first five-year
period that followed the proclamation of
the republic (in 1923) and Ankara's
declaration as the capital was a period of
exploration. Development of the city was
dependent on piecemeal administrative
decisions. Although limited, these
administrative interventions, had,
unfortunately, a number of constraining
effects on subsequent planning efforts.
