Cone Penetration Test

Site: Hemple Rehee Mfg Co.(Bd) Ltd

Date : 07/05/2017
The Rig

This is the rig used for CPT at site Rig in position for testing
Rig setup

Augers were drilled into the ground After set up of the augers
Rig setup (Cont.)

• Augers were drilled into the ground by hydraulic driller

• Then the rig was mounted on two wooden platform to center and level
• As the ground immediately under the ground floor slab is sandy to attain
maximum reaction the whole system was supported against top slab by
existing props
• The rig was centered by water level on the rig body
The piezocone

• The probe used in this test is able to measure pore water

pressure(u2), Tip resistance (qc) and Sleeve friction (fs)
Preparation of piezocone

• The probe was inserted into this machine to vacuum the filter and
saturate with water
• This process was run up to 2 hours and after finishing half an hour
to stabilize the system.
• Then the probe was transferred into a bucket full of water and
rubber was rolled down as far as possible
• With the rubber on the probe was set up with the extensions
• Then the probe was finally ready for the test
The analyzer

• The analyzer was calibrated by the values provided by

the manufacturer

• Calibration certificate was available

• Maximum values for Qc , fs was provided by

manufacturer and was input to analyzer prior to the test
Calibration value input
The test
• After the probe was set up with other extensions test was started

• 1 meter of extension tubes were added after one is pushed into the

ground

• As the machine kept penetrating after one by one extension tubes, data

was displayed by the analyzer.

• After 10 meters tip resistance was high and after 13 meters the rig could

not penetrate any deep and the reaction at the supports was too high to

conduct the test.
