General Information on Ukraine
• My country is Ukraine, and I chose it because my mom’s side of my family
has mostly Ukrainian heritage.
• Ukraine is located in the eastern region of Europe, although can be mistaken
for being part of Asia.
• In the Ukraine, the official language is Ukrainian, and they use the Cyrillic
alphabet.
• The current population of Ukraine (as of 2018) is 42.8 million people.

Geography and Climate
• Some of Ukraine’s physical features include the Crimean
Mountains, plateaus, steppes, and hilly areas with grasslands and
shrublands.
• The climate of Ukraine is usually cold in winter and warm in
summer, although some summers get uncomfortably hot.
• The only thing I could find was the most populated place, which is
Ukraine’s capital, Kiev.

Government and Economics
Petro Poreshenko

• The CabMin (Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine) is


referred to as Ukraine’s government.
• The current leader of Ukraine (as of 2018) is Petro
Poreshenko.
• Ukraine’s economic freedom score is (as of 2018) is
51.9, making it the 150th economically free country in
the 2018 economic index.
• The major exports of Ukraine are coal, fuel and
petroleum products, chemicals, machinery, and
transporting equipment.

Food and Drink
• Some examples of Ukrainian foods are Potato Varenyky, Cabbage Borshch,
Holubtsi, Kartoplia Solimkoi, Nachynka, and Kotlety Po-Kyivskomy.
• Some examples of Ukrainian drinks are Kyvass, Syrivets, Uzvar, and

• Ukrainians usually practice the Eastern Orthodox.
• Ukrainians believe in Slavic mythology.

Family and Education
• Ukrainians usually had a pretty large household of several generations. This
type of family usually lasted a long time.
• In 1965, there were typically ten grades in a Ukrainian school.

Customs and Traditions
• 40% of Ukrainians claim to be atheists. However, the number of Jews in
Ukraine is increasing steadily.
• Some holidays that Ukrainians celebrate are Orthodox Christmas, Women’s
Holiday, Public Holiday, and Orthodox Easter.

Scientific Contributions
• Ukraine contributed to some work on the X-Ray and made the Kerosene
Lamp.
• Some Ukrainian scientists are Borys Paton, Yuri Kontradyuk, and Nikolai
Amosov.

• Some energy resources that Ukraine uses and produces are iron ore, coal,
manganese, natural gas, oil, and salt.

Interesting Facts
• Some pretty interesting facts about Ukraine are that McDonald’s is one of
their favorite places, they have a Café capital, and they were once a so-called
“Breadbasket.”
