Template Creation
While creating a template, keep in mind the
company’s brand guidelines.
The newsletter will usually have the following
components
1. Cover page (unless client says otherwise)
2. Content pages
3. Disclaimer
4. Branding components (logos, fonts, color,
layout)

Templates are available for existing production.
Templates need to be created for fresh
themes/clients/topics
Template Creation – What is needed?
Understand the requirements well. Ask yourselves the following questions
1. What is the periodicity of the newsletter
2. What topic is newsletter covering?
I. Is it a developing issue? (Examples – BREXIT, Elections, Tariffs)
II. Can one template be used regardless of event covered? (Example – Earnings Round Up)
III. Can you derive a color theme based on the topic from the existing Reuters Color Template? (Blue for
BREXIT)
3. What type of orientation would be better for the newsletter?
I. Portrait is most common among our newsletters
II. Landscape is less used, but its really good if there are relevant current photography coverage for the
stories.
4. Is there a space constraint or page limit (Example HSBC newsletters)
5. Is it a pure TR product or is there any co-branding needed?
Template Creation – Non Negotiables
There are somethings that have to remain constant for brand compliance
1. Font Usage – Knowledge Family > Arial
I. Knowledge Bold/Medium - Headlines
II. Knowledge Regular – Main text body
III. Knowledge Light Italics – Captions/Graph Lines/Picture Credits
IV. Knowledge Medium – Subheadings
V. Knowledge Light – By Lines
VI. Knowledge Light/Arial – Disclaimer
2. Color Usage*
I. TR Dark Grey (77,77,77) – Headline/Text Body/Caption/By Line
II. Based on Theme (Only Reuters approved colors) – Subheading/Separator Lines
III. TR Dark Blue (0, 93, 162) – Links/Graph Lines
