Population density of Sarangani increased from 238 to

246 persons per square kilometer
With a total land area of approximately 97 square

kilometers, the population density of Sarangani posted at
246 persons per square kilometer. There was an increase
of 8 persons per square kilometer, from the population
density in 2010 at 238 persons per square kilometer.

Males outnumbered females
Of the total population, 51.7 percent

were males while 48.3 percent were
females. This translated to a sex ratio of
107 males for every 100 females.
Median age was 20.7 years
In 2015, the median age of the municipality’s total

population was 20.7 years, which means that half of the
total population was below 20.7 years.

Females outnumbered males among baccalaureate

degree holders
Of the total population 5 years old and over, 54.9 percent

had attended or completed elementary education, 27.0
percent had reached or finished high school, 3.1 percent were
college undergraduate, and 1.7 percent were
baccalaureate/college graduate.
Among those with baccalaureate degree, there were more

females (54.9 percent) than males (45.1 percent).

Of the 10,234 household population aged 5 to 24 years
old, 64.3 percent were attending school for School Year
2015-2016.
By sex, the school attendance rate in 2015 was higher

among females (66.0 percent) than among males (62.7
percent).

Literacy rate was slightly higher among females than

among males
Sarangani posted a literacy rate of 92.0 percent among the

household population aged 10 years old and over. A person
is considered literate if he/she is able to read and write a
simple message in any language or dialect.
Literacy rate was slightly higher among females (92.5

percent) than among males (91.5 percent).

population resided in 5,632 housing units. This
translated to a ratio of 104 households for every 100
occupied housing units, with an average of 4.3 persons
per occupied housing unit.
In 2010, there was one household per occupied

housing unit and 4.6 persons per occupied housing
unit.

Occupied housing units with outer walls and roofs made of

strong materials increased
In 2015, 13.5 percent of the occupied housing units in the

municipality had outer walls made up of concrete/brick/stone, the
same proportion recorded in 2010. The proportion of occupied housing
units with outer walls made up of wood increased from 9.3 percent in
2010 to 12.5 percent in 2015. On the other hand, those with outer
walls made of bamboo/sawali/cogon/nipa decreased from 67.1 percent
in 2010 to 61.8 percent in 2015.
Meanwhile, 47.2 percent of occupied housing units had roofs made

of galvanized iron/aluminum, and 47.7 percent had roofs made of
bamboo/cogon/nipa/anahaw.

In 2015, 52.2 percent of the 5,842 households in

Sarangani owned or amortized the lots that they
occupied. Likewise, 45.8 percent of the
households occupied lots for free but with
consent of the owner. On the other hand, 0.4
percent occupied lots for free without consent of
the owner.
