What is K to 12 Program?

The K to 12 program covers kindergarten and 12 years of


basic education 6 years in primary education, 4 years of
junior high school and 2 years of senior high school to provide
sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop life
long learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education,
middle level skills development, employment, and
entrepreneurship.
Knowledge - refers to the substantive content of the curriculum,
the facts and information that the students acquires.

What do we want students to know?

Tools :
paper and pencil test (multiple choice, true - false, matching type,)
constructed response type (with rubrics as scoring guide).
Process – refers to cognitive operations that the students performs on
facts and information for the purpose of constructing meanings and
understandings. This level is assessed through activities or tests of
analytical ability
What do we want students to do with what they know?
Tools:
Outline, organize, analyze, interpret, translate, convert, or express
information in another format; draw analogies, constract graphs, models,
flow chart and mind maps or graphic organizers, etc.
Understanding – refers to enduring big ideas, principles and
generalizations inherent to the discipline, which may be assessed using
facets of understanding. Assessment at this level, should require ability to
synthesize, generalize and judge accordingly.

What do we want them to understand?

Tools:
Explain, interpret, apply, give, perspective, etc.
Products/Performances – refers to real life application of understanding
as evidenced by the students performance of authentic tasks. At this level,
Students are expected to be able to apply what has been learned in
contrived or real situations.

What do we want them to perform or produce as evidence of understanding?


Tools:
Participation in group project and experiment.
