This document provides guidance on troubleshooting basic PC issues for a Microsoft operating system. It addresses problems related to no power, no display with power, no operating system found, and the blue screen of death. For the blue screen of death, it recommends using the Windows install disk to run chkdsk to fix file corruption issues, as this is often the cause of the error. A memory dump is also explained as an error screen that occurs before reboot when the operating system can no longer function properly.

A stop error, better known as a Blue Screen of Death (also known as a blue screen or BSoD) is an error screen displayed on a Windows computer system after a fatal system error, also known as a system crash: when the operating system reaches a condition where it can no longer operate safely. BASIC P.C. TROUBLESHOOTING Most of the times Blue Screen of Death is due to file corruption. Boot from the Windows install CD and go into the Recovery Console. From the command line run chkdsk /r to fix file errors. Once chkdsk is done, exit the Recovery Console and try to restart. BASIC P.C. TROUBLESHOOTING A blue screen memory dump is an error screen that comes up just before the system gets rebooted, because the operating system is no longer able to function properly due to a variety of reasons, and the content of the RAM is dumped on to a data file.
