DEFINITION OF TERMS

 HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE: Is the pressure exerted by a static column of fluid

 LITHOSTATIC PRESSURE: Is the pressure exerted by the weight of overlying

sediments
Algorithm used in excel

For Hydrostatic pressure,

(0.442 * depth) + 14.7

For lithostatic pressure

(1.0 * depth) + 14.7

Where 14.7 is the air gap

Table showing the Hydrostatic,
Lithostatic and PPP1 in respect to depth
PPP2 at depth 8750.98 – 10898.59
Graph showing Pressure against Depth
with PPP1 and PPP2

Conclusion/Recommendation

 0.442 psi/ft was used for the normal pressure gradient as a result of
formation water type which is sea water
 Lithostatic gradient used was 1.0 psi/ft which forms the upper limit to the
pressure that can be held in the system
 From the prediction thus far, we observed that the well is likely to be more
underpressured than overpressured. This could be due to secondary
mechanism
 For wellbore stability to be achieved, we recommend that the mud weight
selection should be appropriate to counterbalance the formation pressure
 During production, we would recommend that enhanced oil recovery should
be used to optimize the well
