Objectives:
 define and explain diglossia;
 distinguish bilingualism and multilingualism;
and
 shareone’s idea, opinion, experience about
the subject matter.

Instructions: The class will be divided into 5 groups. Every group is
given 5 minutes to arrange the following words to answer the
question, What is Diglossia? After the arranging the words, a group
representative shares and explains their answer.

Diglossia is seen as a kind of bilingualism in a
society in which one of the language has high
prestige (henceforth referred to as "H"), and
another of the languages has low prestige ("L").
Definition

Bilingualism
-having some ability to use two languages.

Example: English and Cebuano

Multilingualism
 ability
of an individual speaker or a community of
speakers to communicate effectively in three or
more languages.

A person who can speak multiple languages is known as


a polyglot or a multilingual.
Activity: We Are Unique

Instructions: In the same group, come out with a


creative presentation distinguishing bilingualism
and multilingualism. Each group is given 7 minutes
to brainstorm and to prepare. The creative
presentation must not exceed 5 minutes.
