SAFETY IN THE SCHOOL

Safety is the concern in places where many people gather. Schools


are such places, so they must meet certain safety standards. The
school should be treated the same way we would care for our house.
Whether old or newly constructed,schools need proper care and
maintenance. Equally important for safety at school is your behavior
as students. The following list includes some of the ways which
students can do to make their school a safe place for them selves
and others.
Safety in the clasroom
- As much as possible there should be sufficient space between rows of tables and chairs to
provide freedom of movement within the classroom.
- Before the start of each class, check the stability of chairs and condition of table or desks.
- Double check on loose electrical wires, open or defective outlets and switches and weak
equipment, especially lightning fixtures and electric fans mounted on ceilings and walls.
- An overly polished floor leads to accidents. Clean the floor but never let it be to polished
- Allow adequate ventilation. If there are indoor plants, take care not put too much water
because damp sol ma breed various micro organisms that may seriously effect one’s
occupants.
Safety in the library
- Store the heaviest books or objecs on the lowest
shelf.
- Don’t overload a filling cabinet or shelf don’t put
items on top of them.
- See to it that books and other library items are
stored in an orderly manner.
- Drawers should be closed when not in use
- Don’t leave keys sticking out fro the locks
Safety in the play ground and open field

- Pick up trash and other hazardous materials and dispose them


off properly in strategically positioned trash cans.
- Remove broken play equipment or store them accordingly.
Have the fixed by a professional.
- Reguarly chek on the condition of he play equipment for signs
of vandalism and wear and tear. check specific areas susch as
seats, steps, handrails, and other moving parts.
- Use the playgrounds during playtime and breaks with care
and watch out for possible hazards. Practice fair play and
accordingly n case of an emergency.
- Remove obstacles like hllow blocks, wooden planks, tree
stumps, and rocks.
Safety in the Science Laboratory
- Always keep the eyes protected especially if one needs to observe an experiment
at a close distance. Wear chemical goggles.
- Pour liquids carefully to prevent skin contact and spills. Quickly cleanup any spills.
- Absolutely no eating inside the library.
- As much as possible, wear gloves when handling chemicals
- Don’t work alone. A least two people must be present
- The laboratory must have a adequate ventilation and air circulation
- Never use mouth suction to fill a pipette filling device.
- Don’t just throw away chemicals down the drain. Ask the teacher about proper
chemical disposal
- Report any accident, no mater how small, to he teacher
- Keep a safe distance from ones classmates when handling materials and
equipment.
- The laboratory is not a playground so don’t engage in horseplay, pranks or other
acts of mischief. While experiments are fun and highly interesting they should be
taken seriously. Always act responsibility
Safety in the Corridor
- Keep corridors and hallways clear of bags, boxes, files and other items . Bags,

- If there are holes, cover the temporarily until real work can be done. Don’t over

Safety behavior among Students
As students, following rules of school conduct and behavior are strictly
enforced for everyone’s good.it develops safety-consciousness within to
become responsible for ones own welfare and others as well
- Don’t loiter. Walk safely and quietly on the right side of corridors and
stairway
- Never vandalize school property and resect others’ belongings
- Observe proper handling of sharp objects like scissors, cutters, and similar
objects and always keep them n their respective cases
- Never push, crown and run inside the building especially in the canteen.
- Don’t play inside the comfort rooms
- Don’t litter. Observe cleanliness and dispose of waste by segregating them
into wet and dry or into biodegradeable and non bio-degradeable
containers. Help keep he campus clean by removing glass, sticks, stones
and other waste materials.
- Practice fair play and foster camaraderie in sports and games.
- Learn to recognize and report safety hazards.
- Be responsible for one’s schoolmates.
- Learn and follow emergency school drills.
