Death of President Magsaysay
March 16, 1957 – the presidential plane with
Magsaysay on board left Manila for Cebu for a
speaking engagement at an educational institution.

It was customary for Magsaysay

that for every engagement he
made, he ha to go back to
malacanang to see his wife kids
before retiring at night.
It was this practice that
forced Magsaysay to order the
pilot of Presidential Plane Mt.
Pinatubo to head back to Manila
despite the bad weather.
In the cold morning of March 17,1957 the
presidential plane was reported missing; the late in
the afternoon it was reported that it crashed in Mt.
Manunggal, in the town Austrias in Cebu.

All those aboard the plane

were killed except, Naster
Mata, a Journalist.

following the military cart; it was
observed that the pair of boots
of Magsaysay were tied on the
left side of the saddle while his
hat which he used to wear
during his sorties in the barrios
was placed on top of the saddle.
The people viewed his short sized coffin laid on top
of military cart drawn by one red-colored horse.
President Garcia assumed office on March 23, 1957, almost
seven days after Magsaysay’s death. The family of President
Magsaysay should leave Malacanang Palace in favor of the
incoming Presidential family.

The widow of Magsaysay Luz Banzon and

kids were reported to be misty-eyed for
they have no Mansion to transfer to after
Malacanang Magsaysay prioritized the
common tao forgetting to build a house for
his family.
