ASH SHANDLING
SYSTEM

Ash generated in power plant is about 30- 40%

of total coal consumption. The system is
required to handle Ash for its proper utilization
or disposal.

BOILER

Bed material used is sand or slags.

Before start-up, bed material level is 700
to 800 mm. In normal operation bed
pressure is maintained at 7 to 9 KPa and
a bed temperature of 850 to 900 °C.
ASH SHANDLING
SYSTEM
Slag is discharged from the furnace and
enters the slag cooler through the
discharge pipe located at the bottom
SLAG COOLER rear portion.

•Serve as a heat
exchanger.

•Cool the slags

coming out of the
furnace from
850°C to less than
200°C.
ASH SHANDLING
SYSTEM
Condensate water is used to cool the slag
temperature down to <200˚C at a pressure
of 0.3~0.5 MPa, then returns to the
condensate line just before the LP Heater 5

The function of the Fly Ash Handling System is

to transport fly ash collected in the precipitator
hoppers to the fly ash storage silos.

RAPPING
SYSTEM
When the DC current passes
through the coil of the rapper,
magnetic force is generated to
lift the rapper rod to a certain
height.
Power is cut-off, rod falls down
producing a rapping force.

SYSTEM
It is a major component in the bottom
ash system. In addition, ash carried
through the boiler back pass that is
too heavy to remain suspended in the
flue gas drops into a hopper bellow
the economizer.

SYSTEM
Fly ash entrained in the flue gas
collects on the electrostatic
precipitator (EP) plates and is
deposited in the electrostatic
precipitator hoppers.
