EFFECT OF HOME MIXED FEEDS SUPPLEMENTED WITH

DIFFERENT
LEVELS OF VITAMINS ANFD MINERAL FEED
ADDITIVES IN
PERFORMANCE OF LAYING MUSCOVY
DUCK.
Objectives of the Study
The study aims to evaluate the effect of different indigenous feedstuff
supplemented with different vitamins and minerals premix in the
performance of laying Muscovy duck.
Specifically, the study aims to:
1. Determine the effect of home mixed feeds supplemented with
different levels of vitamins and minerals feeds additives on the
performance of laying Muscovy duck. And;
2. Find out what is the best level suited for the laying of Muscovy duck
3 .determine the economics of using home mixed feeds supplemented
with different levels of vitamins and minerals feed additives in
performance of laying Muscovy duck
• METHODOLOGY
A.Experimental Area
The experimental pasture area for birds will be based on the
recommended large area requirements of four (4) square per bird. The
Isabela State University-Jones Campus has a wide range area planted
with banana trees, malunggay, native grasses and other edible weeds
which are good source of other nutrients for the growth of the ducks
and thus, it is an ideal site to raise ducks.
• B.Preparation of the Experimental Area
• Grasses like carabao grass, para grass and other forage grasses will be
planted in the range area especially the area that have less cover to have
more less similar species of forage in addition to the ones that are already
present and those that will emerge in the area during the conduct of the
study. Likewise, species of forage with known toxic composition will be
removed to prevent the birds from picking it. Only those that are safe and
edible grass forage will be retained for the ducks to grass on. The grasses
will be unfirmly at least 21 days before the birds are transferred to the
respective areas.
• Inside the range area, a readily constructed portable experimental pens will
be used in the study. They will be provided with feeding and drinking
through and sack pen will be provided with a divisional fence made up with
plastic cetted screen to protect the bridge from predators and to avoid
mixing of the birds in the pasture range area.
• C.Experimental Pen
• Experimental will be constructed to house the bird’s chicks for one
month. The experimental pen will be divided into several small pens.
Each pen will be provided with a bird shelter made up of lumber and
covered with 6.1 sheets. Each shelter made up will be provided with
individual lights to encourage the birds to eat during night time. Rice
hull will scattered/spread into pens to serve as flooring and as litter
material.
• D.Procurement of the Birds
• A total of sixty (60) heads with 48 female and 12drake s will used in
the study.
• E.Environmental Situation and Hygiene
• The experimental pens will be cleaned thoroughly one week before
the start of the study to prevent the occurrence of disease caused by
harmful microorganisms. The area will be kept clean during the
duration of the study.
• F.Experimental Design and Treatments
The birds will be distributed into four (5) treatments in a Randomized
Completely Block Design. This was repeated with randomization of the
animals into treatments, forming three (3) replication per treatment.
Treatment1was commercial feeds Treatment 2 Homixed ration
supplemented without vitamins and minerals feed additives Treatment3
was Homixed ration with tbsp. vitamin and mineral feed additives.
Treatment 4 was Homixed ration supplemented with 8tbsp vitamins and
mineral feed additives.t treatment 5 was 12tbsp vitamin and mineral feed
additives l. The ducklings were randomly distributed into three (3)
treatments. Each treatment were replicated thrice with four (4) heads per
replication. It were laid onto following the Randomized Completely Block
Design (RCBD) with the following treatments:
T1 Commercial feeds

T2- Home-mixed ration supplemented without vitamin and mineral feed additives

T3- Home-mixed ration supplemented with 4tbsp vitamin and mineral feed additives

T4-Home-mixed ration supplemented with 8 tbsp. vitamin and mineral feed additives

T5-Home-mixed ration supplemented with 12 tbsp. vitamin and mineral feed additives

Noted: The recommended rate of feed additives is 4tbsp in 11 kg of finished feeds

• E.Feed mixing
• Feed mixing will be done manually. The different feed ingredients will
be mixed together to attain the correct mixture. After which, the
mixture will be added gradually to complete the formulation.
G.Data Gathering
• The following data will be gathered and recorded for analysis and
evaluation.
• Egg Weight. The weight of egg laid will be gathered upon collection
from the laying cages...
• Feed Consumption. The weekly feed consumption of the birds in the
different treatments will be carefully recorded by considering data of
the amount of feed to be offered.
•. 3.Egg Production .The number o egg laid will be recorded daily
at 5 o’clock PM when most of the ducks had already laids eggs .
• A.No off egg laid/day
