 THE NAME OF THE REGION IS AN ACRONYM OF ITS FIVE COMPONENT
PROVINCES.
 ITS REGIONAL CENTER IS CALAMBA CITY IN LAGUNA.
 CALABARZON IS THE MOST POPULOUS REGION IN THE PHILIPPINES,
HAVING 14,414,774 INHABITANTS IN 2015.
 IT IS ALSO THE COUNTRY'S SECOND MOST DENSELY POPULATED AFTER
NCR.

MIMAROPA
 The Southwestern Tagalog Region, officially designated as
MIMAROPA Region, it was also formerly designated as Region
IV-B until 2016.
 It is one of five regions in the country having no land border
with another region (the others being Western Visayas, Negros
Island Region, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas).
 The name is an acronym combination of its constituent
provinces: Mindoro (divided into Occidental Mindoro and
Oriental Mindoro), Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.

CAVITE
 Known as a place where significant revolutions against foreign
colonists took place.
 In the late 16th century, arriving colonizers saw an unusually
protruding land thrust into Manila Bay and realized its value as
a primary staging ground from where they could launch their
huge galleons.
 The place was then named Kawit, which means “hook”, as it
seems to resemble one and then became the most important port
that linked the colony to the outside world.

 This is Aguinaldo’s ancestral home where the general


proclaimed Philippine Independence from Spain on the 12th of
June 1898.
 . It was also here where the national flag, which was made by
Marcella Agoncillo in Hong Kong, was first hoisted officially and
where the national anthem composed by Julian Felipe was first
played.
CORREGIDOR ISLAND
CORREGIDOR ISLAND

 This is the largest of the five islands that guard the entrance of Manila Bay.
 Originally, this tadpole-shaped island was a mere fishing village with a
lighthouse and signal station to guide all ships that entered and left the bay.
It was here that American colonizers built full-scale fortifications that are
complete with long-range anti-aircraft guns, tractor guns, underground
command center and a hospital for injured soldiers.
 During the last Pacific War, the island became a vital combat zone
between the Allies and the Japanese Imperial Army, and was the last
stronghold that fell in the hands of the enemy.
 Today, it is a favorite tour destination with memorials to peace and to the
soldiers who died in the war standing side-by-side silent cannons and
rusting artillery.

 This ancestral house was once the residence of Andres


Bonifacio, the founder of the secret revolutionary society,
Katipunan, and one of Philippine Revolution’s architects.
 Though the house is renovated many times, its original Spanish-
style design, with a facade of red bricks and adobe, still remains.

 This is the site of a fierce battle between Filipino and


Spanish soldiers that took place on the 9th of November
1896, which lasted three days.
 This site depicts a shining moment of the struggle of
Filipinos for independence.

 This was built in 1906 to honor the revered martyrs of


Cavite and today still holds the remains of six of these
martyrs.
 With the help of the Department of Tourism this former
monument was transformed into a centennial plaza when it
celebrated its 100th-year anniversary.

 Tagaytay Ridge is a highland area in Tagaytay where Palance in


the Sky (now called as People’s Park in the Sky) is located.
 It is a rest house of a former Philippine President Ferdinand
Marcos. Tagaytay Ridge will offer you a majestic view to the
smallest volcano in the Philippines, Taal Volcano.
 Since Taal Volcano is situated in Taal Lake, it will surely give you
breath taking scenery. This is also a perfect romantic spot for
weddings. There are tours to Tagaytag Ridge that costs around
$100.

 If you love spelunking, one of the natural tourist spots in


Cavite is Cabag Cave. Out of the 3 caves in Cavite, Cabag
Cave is the most popular one which water falls at the mouth
of the cave forming a small pool.
 The lush greenery Cabag Cave has a 50-meter underground
river that runs inward located in Maragondon, Cavite.

 Pico de Loro also called as “Parrot’s Peak”, is one of the


amazing natural attractions in Cavite where its stands like a
firm stone tower.
 This is a luring destination in Cavite to mountain climbers
which the peak is considered as the highest point of Cavite.
 Climbing its steep slope is not easy especially to the new
mountain climbers.

 This falls is not too popular but those who have been to the
place cannot believe that such an amazing place rest in the
picturesque province of Cavite.
 Malibiclibic falls is appropriate for swimming so for
travelers who want to take a dip, bring your swimwear and
enjoy the water.
 Visitors who travel in groups may also find it pleasing
because the place also offers a campsite wherein tents may
be set up.
BALITE FALLS
BALITE FALLS

 Going to Balite Falls will take you about 2 hours if you come
from Manila. This natural attraction found in Amadeo has two
falls that travelers can visit.
 One of the falls has strong clear water. The second falls, on the
other hand, uses bamboo tubes and pipes to manage the water
flow.
 Both children and adults may enjoy a day of swimming on the
two falls. Balite Falls may be reached by taking a bus in Baclaran
and one jeepney ride once you are in Banay-Banay.

 Cavite State University, commonly known as CvSU, is a


government-funded university in the province of Cavite.
Initially established as an intermediate school by the Thomasites,
a group of American teachers brought by the United States
during the early part of the American colonial period, the school
has grown into a college known as the Don Severino
Agricultural College (DSAC) until it finally became a university
on January 22, 1998 when it was renamed as Cavite State
University.

 The Philippine Christian University or simply referred to as PCU


is a private university for both boys and girls along Taft Avenue,
Manila. It was founded in 1946 through the initiatives of the

Originally named as Manila Union University, it was renamed as
Philippine Christian College (PCC). In 1976, the PCC acquired
university status.

 San Sebastian College – Recoletos de Cavite, Inc. is a Roman

 St. Mary Magdalene Church is the oldest church in Cavite. It


had been the witness to more than decades of war for
freedom. The church was built in the 1620s when
Catholicism started to spread and was then constructed on
1639 using seashells, thick mud, and cement. It was even
badly destroyed when Spaniards attacked Kawit with
cannon balls.

 Because of the vagaries of time and war, not one of the


eight churches in the walled city remains today. However,
the belfry of the Recoletos still stands as silent witness to the
piousness of the early Caviteños.

 Imus Cathedral is one of the historical churches in the


Philippines. The ceiling, structure and precious relics are
proof of its historic significance.
 Cathedral of Our Lady of Pillar popularly called as Imus
Cathedral is a perfect spot in Cavite especially when it is
October 12.
 The reason is that Our Lady of the Pillar and Saint John the
Baptist are the patron saints in Imus City which they
celebrate their fiesta every October 12.

 Silang Catholic Church is large and the altar has intricate


designs. There are numerous statues of Christ, Mary, and the
saints of the Catholic Church ensconced within the altars'
multi- level wooden platforms with stylized carvings.
 Legend goes that the church simply miraculously appeared
overnight during the Spanish times. Others claim that it was
created through forced labor instituted by the Spanish
colonizers. The church was said to have been constructed in
1585.

 Maragondon Catholic Church Of 17th century vintage, the


Marigondon Catholic Church was built by the Dominican
friars.
 It has a large convent made of different antique woods and
bricks.
 The wooden altar, pulpit and main portal are finely crafted.
One of the mainattractions is the tower which in the olden
times, served as a lookout for signs of enemy intruction.
LAGUNA
 The Resort Province of the Philippines, is a haven of fresh and
pristine bodies of water such as hot springs, lakes, and
waterfalls.
 Laguna is not only endowed with natural wonders.
 The province got its name from the Spanish word "lago", which
means lake or lagoon.
 It also plays an important role in the country's history as the
birthplace of Dr. Jose Rizal, the country's national hero.

 For guests who would want to see how the local hero who
would soon be the face of the one peso coin spent his formation
years at home, the Jose Rizal Shrine in Calamba Laguna is a
must-stop.
 The Rizal Shrine is one of the most frequented historical and
Laguna tourist spots with approximately 270,000 tourists
visiting the shrine annually.
 If one would like to see how the local hero was molded to
become who he eventually was, the Rizal Shrine should be one
of the places to visit.

 In quick succession, the College of Agriculture becomes a Japanese


camp for prisoners of war, an internment camp for allied nationals, a
target of Kempetai punitive measures, and the headquarters of a
secret organization of guerillas. After the dramatic rescue of the
Americans internees by Filipino guerillas and U.S. paratroopers on
February 23, 1945, the entire campus was sacked by the Japanese
and razed to the ground. Only Baker Hall, the armory – gymnasium,
remained standing amidst the rubble. Shortly after the war, Generals
Masaharu Homma and Tomoyuki Yamashita, the commanders at the
time of the Bataan Death March, were executed in April 1946. They
were both tried for their war crimes and executed near the Economic
Garden.

 Built in 18th century by the Franciscan Missionaries, the
underground cemetery is a circular wall structure. At the
crypt of the cemetery, according to history, is where the
Katipuneros plotted against Spanish rule.

 The Battle of Mabitac is considered to be one of the first


successful battles fought against the American Regime
during the Filipino-American War that happened on
September 17, 1900.
 In the said encounter, the Filipino Forces headed by General
Juan Cailles killed the US Commanding General Cheatam.

 Founded in 1687. It is originallly chapel of bamboo and nipa.


Reconstructed in 1960 with deep affection by the town postas
(able-bodied men rendering the annual polo of forced labor)
under the direction of Miguel Guanco and Alcuacil Mayor
Alfonso Garcia.
 Improved in 1853 by Fr. Joaquin de Coria, a talented priest-
engineer designed and built the high belfry and the gorgeous
cupola, with the Pagsanjeños supplying the labor, materials and
funds. The Church was damaged during the World War II.

 The Crocodile Lake is a small crater lake situated on the


edge of Laguna de Bay, which is shaped like crocodile. The
natural lake formation is unique as it is a lake within a lake.

Falls.
 Pagsanjan, Laguna is the jump off point to the falls. For travelers

take you to the falls or “shoot the rapids”.
 Before reaching the falls, you get to experience a scenic boat
ride by the skilled and accredited boatmen and cruise around
Magdapio River before reaching the main falls.

 For history buffs and connoisseurs, a trip to Laguna’s Japanese


Garden should be included in their itinerary. The garden is
located in Lake Caliraya in Cavinti, Laguna.
 The place is built to serve as a memorial park made by the
Japanese government in the 1970s to commemorate the
Japanese soldiers who perished during the Second World War.
 Apart from taking leisurely strolls among the gardens, gulaests
and tourists can bask in the beautiful scenery of Lake Caliraya
and the Sierra Madre mountain range.

 Lake Caliraya is a man-made lake situated in the


municipalities of Lumban, Cavinti, and Kalayaan in Laguna
province, Philippines. Created in 1939, the lake has

 Saint Michael's College of Laguna (SMCL) is an autonomous


college in Biñan City, Laguna, Philippines, formerly known as
Biñan College.
 SMCL was founded by the nine Limaco sisters, on August 25,
1975. Luisa Limaco-De Leon provided the idea of building the
school, Pura Limaco financed the school's operations, while
Milagros Limaco, a teacher, was later elected as the chairman of
the board and director of the school. The school was named
after the Limaco patriarch, Miguel, a philanthropist.

 The University of the Philippines Los Baños College of
Agriculture and Food Science (also referred to as UPLB CAFS) is
one of the 11 degree-granting units of the University of the
Philippines Los Baños. Founded in 1909 as the University of the
Philippines College of Agriculture, it is the oldest constituent of
UPLB, and is one of the four founding units of the university
upon its establishment in 1972.

 De La Salle Canlubang (DLSC), currently known as De La Salle


University Science and Technology Complex (DLSU-STC), was a
member institution of De La Salle Philippines, located in Biñan
City, Laguna, Philippines right across the Laguna Technopark
district, where a portion of the campus is also within Santa Rosa
City.
 The campus, which was established on 2003, was built on 55
hectares of prime property, donated by the family of the late
National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin (DLSU HS
1947). Access to the campus is via the South Luzon Expressway
off the Santa Rosa exit to Tagaytay City.

 St. Francis by the Sea is listed in the Guinness Book of World


Records as the second smallest cathedral in the world.
 The cathedral was built in 1933 with rubble salvaged from the
1933 Long Beach earthquake, and has a total of 42 seats.
 The National Sick Cell Sets Museum (Last Rites) is housed in the
choir loft.

 One of the best choices to start off one’s visit is in San Pablo
City, Laguna. The city, which is said to be one of the oldest cities
in the country, is also called the City of the Seven Lakes. The city
also houses the Saint Paul the First Hermit Cathedral, where the
seat of the Bishop of the San Pablo Diocese is located. The
church is several centuries old, with the original church
constructed in 1586. In 1714, groundbreaking for the
construction of the stone church was done and the building was
completed in 1721. According to the classification of church
architecture, the San Pablo church is considered to be
Romanesque in style. It has also been declared as a Cultural
Heritage monument.

 The Church of Pila also known as the San Antonio de Padua


Parish Church designated as the Diocesan Shrine of San Antonio
de Padua (Filipino: Pandiyosesis na Dambana ni San Antonio de
Padua) of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Pablo is a church
dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua in the Philippines in 1578
and the first Antonine parish church in the Philippines in 1581
and probably in Asia. In 1606 the Franciscans set up the second
printing press of the Philippines under the supervision of Tomás
Pinpín and Domingo Loag. Its titular is St. Anthony of Padua,
whose feast is celebrated every June 13. As of 2015 the parish
priest was Father Edwin D. Lusterio.

 The Immaculate Conception Parish Church (Filipino: Simbahan


ng Parokya ng Immaculada Concepcion) is the oldest Roman
Catholic church in the municipality of Los Baños, Laguna,
Philippines. Its titular is the Nuestra Señora del Aguas Santas
(also Immaculate Conception) and its feast is celebrated every
December 8. The current parish priest is Father Zaldy Fortuno.

 The St. Peter of Alcantara Parish Church (Filipino: Simbahan ng


Parokya ni San Pedro Alcantara), designated as the Diocesan
Shrine of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de Turumba, is a
Roman Catholic church in Pakil, Laguna, Philippines. It
enshrines the Our Lady of Turumba painting. The current
parish priest is Reverend Father Mario P. Rivera.
BATANGAS
 Spanish missionaries first set foot in Batangas City in 1572.
 The settlement was founded in 1581 and named “Batangan” because of the
numerous big logs that abounded the Calumpang River.
 The logs were called “batang” by the natives who settled near the river and
called the settlement “Batangan”.
 This name was modified and became Batangas in 1601.
 Don Agustin Casilao was appointed as the first Gobernadorcillo. Since
1754, the city has been the capital and administrative center of the
province.
 Batangas became a city in 1969 through Republic Act. No. 5495.

MABINI SHRINE
 The Shrine houses the remains and personal belongings of the
late revolutionary hero and "Brains of the Katipunan,"
Apolinario Mabini. Mabini is known as the "Sublime Paralytic"
who, despite his physical handicap, fired nationalism in the
Filipinos and urged them to unite, with the sheer power of his
writings. He wrote fiery articles against Spanish atrocities in
revolutionary papers. His wrtings and memorabilia are kept
here. His tomb lies at the middle of the site where a replica of
the house where he was born also stands.
CASA DE SEGUNDA KATIGBAK
 The ancestral home of prominent Batangas family, the Casa is a
typical "Bahay na Bato". It is Spanish Colonial yet tropical in
ambiance.
 It was named after Segunda Katigbak, reputed to be the first love
of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the Philippines' national hero. Casa segunda
is declared by the National Historical Commission as a heritage
house for having harbored generations of artists, poets and
persons of learning and distinction.
MARCELA N. AGONCILLO HISTORICAL LANDMARK
(NATIONAL LANDMARK)
 The birthplace of Marcela N. Agoncillo who was known as the
marker of the first official Filipino Flag during the Philippine
revolution against the Spanish authorities.
 The different flags of the revolution are also prominently
displayed.
PUNTA DE SANTIAGO LIGHTHOUSE
 Built in 1890, it is one of the earliest lighthouses that still
function up to this date.
 Since it was constructed, no running ship has ever ran
aground.

 The Casa Villavicencio or Casa V is an old Spanish Colonial Era


house in Taal, Batangas, Philippines. Built in 1850, the house
was given to Don Eulalio Villavicencio upon the death of his
parents. In 1919, Governor General Francis B. Harrison slept in
the house as a guest of Sen. Vicente Ilustre, son-in-law of Doña
Gliceria, to inaugurate the electric plant in Taal.

TAAL VOLCANO

 Taal Volcano is one of the most visited tourist spots in Batangas.


Standing 311+ meters above sea level, it is considered as the
smallest active volcano in the Philippines located within a lake,
Taal Lake.
 Inside the volcano there is another lake, Taal Crater Lake. This
interesting feature makes a really picturesque view.
 Visitors can ride a boat to reach the foot of the volcano and from
there one can either trek or ride a horse to reach the top.
 It is not advisable though to swim in the Taal Crater Lake.
FORTUNE ISLAND
FORTUNE ISLAND

 Fortune Island is one of the beautiful places to visit in Batangas


famous for its crumbling pillars called the “Acropolis” from the
Acropolis of Athens in Greece. It was once a private luxury
island resort but it is now an abandoned one due to lack of
freshwater source and prone to typhoons. If you are expecting a
white sand beach and good facilities, for family outings, this is
not your ideal destination. But for group of friends who loves
camping, snorkeling and cliff diving, this can be your ideal
destination. Aside from that, take photography to goddess level
as the imitation of ancient pillars of Greece makes a beautiful
backdrop.

 Masasa Beach is one of the best tourist spots in Batangas where

rock formations so most people do rock climbing to have a better
view. There are no good accommodation but only nipa huts.

 Anilao is a Marine Protected Sanctuary in Batangas which is being


dubbed as the birthplace of scuba diving in the Philippines.
 There are around 50 dive sites in Anilao, that’s a variety of dive
sites to choose from starters to professional divers. Visitors can
witness beautiful corals and variety of marine life. Most of the
resorts in Anilao can provide a diving package for first timer or
beginner divers.
 The best time to go diving in Anilao is during April and May
where most of the days the weather conditions are good which
gives good visibility underwater.

 Formerly known as Tayabas, was explored by the Spaniards in
1571 and 1572 when Juan de Salcedo visited and explored
upon the order of the first Spanish Governor General of the
Philippines, Miguel Lopez de Legaspi.
 They passed through the central portion of Tayabas in his
march across Laguna Province to Paracale. The following years,
Salcedo led his famous expeditions around the northern coast of
Luzon. He visited the "CONTRACOSTA" towns of Casiguran,
Baler and Infanta.
QUEZON
 In 1574, Father Diego de Oropesa, who found a group of native
barangays with their own culture and government, founded the
municipality of Gumaca, then called Bumaka.
 The territory which now constitutes the province of Tayabas
was at one time under the jurisdiction of various provinces. The
southern and central portions, for example, were in 1585 under
the jurisdiction of the province of Bonbon, sometimes called
Balayan (now Batangas). the northern portion was divided
between Laguna and Nueva Ecija, while the other portion was
divided into the provinces of Mindoro, Marinduque and
Camarines.
