Volleyball

 About the Game!
• Volleyball is an indoor and outdoor sport, at my high school we played
indoors where six players are on the court at a time; three in front and three
in the back.
• In volleyball the main purpose is to get the ball over the net and force it to
hit the ground.
• The game begins by someone serving the ball over the net.
• Each team is allowed to hit the ball three times before it must go over the
net and a single player can’t hit the ball more than once; if the ball does not
go over the net it’s the other teams point.
• When the ball hits the ground on your side of the court it’s the other teams
point same as if it hits the ground on the other side its your point.
• The games are usually played to 25 and it’s the best of 5; which means
whatever team wins three games they win the match.
 Volleyball is a sport very
entertaining and often fair game
 Volleyball Positions
• Setter- sets the plays equivalent to the quarterback on a football team and
the point guard on a basketball team.
• Outside hitter, Middle hitter, & Weakside hitter- are the persons who spike
the ball onto the other side of the court after the setter “sets” the ball.
• Libero- The libero is the player on the team that can come into the game
and replace anyone at anytime on the back row.
• Right Back- person that starts in the right back corner.
• Right Front- person that starts in the right front corner.
• Middle Front- person starts in the middle up front.
• Left Front- starts in the front left corner.
• Left Back- starts in the back left corner
• Middle Back starts in the middle of the court.
Volleyball by far would
have to be my favorite
sport. I played volleyball
all throughout high
school I started on the
varsity team all four years
and was known as the
setter.
When I watch how
others play volleyball is
pretty boring, but when
you play is an exciting
sport and fun.
 Facts and History!
• Volleyball is the second most popular sport in the world, coming in
second to soccer.
• It was invented by William G. Morgan in 1895, in Massachusetts.
• The first official game of volleyball was held on July 7, 1896.
• Volleyball became an Olympic sport in 1964.
