BASIC TERMINOLOGY USED

AT
ENGINE PERFORMANCE

Present by
Trainee Technician
S.R..TAYLOR
THE EFFECT OF THE ENGINE
PERFORMANCE:
What’s BORE ?
 The diameter of the cylinder ,which a
piston travels
 Represent the size
STROKE ?...
The distance travelled by the piston
 From Bottom Dead Center(B.D.C.) to Top Dead Center (T.D.C.)
B.D.C… T.D.C…
B.D.C. :-
The lowest position that piston reaches in the cylinder
(Towards the head side of the cylinder)
T.D.C. :-
The highest position reaches in the cylinder
(Towards the crank end side of the cylinder)
PISTON DISPLACEMENT/SWEPT VOLUME
The circular area of one cylinder

Multiplied by it’s stroke

Multiplied by the number of pistons

TT = 22/7
r 2 = radius X radius TTr2 X L X n
L = Stroke
n = number of cylinders in the engine
COMPRESSION RATIO…

Ratio of total cylinder volume to combustion chamber volume

 Measuring low much air/air-fuel mixture is compressed in the
cylinder –( The ratio of total cylinder volume to combustion
chamber volume)
 Compression ratio increase > Power increase
