Engine:
An engine is a machine designed to convert
energy into useful mechanical motion.

Types of Engine:

 Internal combustion engine

(Four Stroke Engines, Two Stroke
Engines, Rotary Engines, Diesel Engines)
 External combustion engine
(In Trains)
 Air-breathing combustion engines
(In Rockets)
Causes of vibrations in engine:

 Worn Out Spark Plugs

 Faulty or Poorly Adjusted Fuel Intake System
 Knocking
 Cylinder misfire
 Engine imbalance
Vibrations are more common in four cylinder engine as compared to
six or eight cylinder engine because of fewer number of cylinders
producing power in four cylinder engine.
Types of vibrations in engine:
 Abnormal Vibrations - Vibrations caused by a component rotating
the same speed as the
1. engine's crankshaft
2. belt-driven accessory
3. gear-driven component
 Normal Vibrations - Vibrations caused by normal engine operating
characteristics such as:
1) cylinders firing events
2) exhaust event
Tuned mass damper
Active control system:

The new solution is to damp this vibration with an active

electrically controlled anti-vibrator. An accelerometer has
been added to the closed loop systems either to the every
anti-vibrator device or in a critical place in the car body.
Magnetorheological (MR) damper:

The MR damper is composed of the

 Piston
 cylinder
 And gas chamber
The floating piston between the cylinder and the gas
chamber is also used in order to compensate for the
volume induced by the motion of the piston.
