decision forum with business units
• Data quality does not meet business requirements
2

• Kevin Hobert found issues with sales reports

• Case Study: Medical Equipment Sales, Lead-to-
Order-to-Cash process
• Value and Benefits
• Accurate and timely reports
• Requirement for going public
• Enable opportunities to
• Increase revenue and value
• Manage cost and complexity
• Address risks and vulnerabilities

Case Study Findings

• SFDC is now a system of record for Customer and

Prospective Customer data.
– SFDC is disconnected and out of sync with the SAP Customer source.
– No standard format was followed for names, addresses and phone numbers.

• Big Machines has become a system of record for pricing

master data.
– It receives the Pricing master data from GMAT. GMAT receives the Pricing master data
from a variety of source systems including SAP.

• Big Machines has become a system of record for product

sales configuration master data.
– There are multiple systems of record for product sales configuration data, including
SAP.

• Sales orders are manually entered into SAP using quotes

from Big Machines.
– The supporting sales order business processes are disconnected due to this manual
process. Manual entry opens the door for extra time and errors.

Case Study Recommendations

1. Define Sales-Related Master Data Governance

2. Use Available Master Data and Integration Tools
3. Cleanse Master Data
4. Designate a single system as the System of
Record for Customer Master Data, e.g. SAP
5. Replace GMAT with NexGen GMAT
6. Stabilize and evolve quoting tools such as BMI
