REVIEW:
• What properties of a
material affect one’s
health?
• What common materials
at home undergo decay?
• There are materials at home which
are manufactured products.
• Most of these products are sold in
plastic packages, boxes, glass
containers or in tin cans.
• When you buy these products, do
you bother to read the labels on its
packages?
GROUP ACTIVITY

1. Look for the product label in each
of the materials.
2. List any information you can get
from the product label in the data
chart below.

• What are the kinds of products that you
have in your activity? (Food Products,
Medicine/Drugs, Housekeeping
products.)
• Do you have all these materials at home?
• Have you experienced buying these
products?
• When you buy these products, do you
bother to read the labels on the package
or container?
• As you read the labels of the empty
packages of the products that you
have in your activity, what
information did you get? (content,
expiry date….)
• Do all the labels provide enough
information about the products?
• What is the importance of knowing
how to read product labels?
• Brand name and content of the
packaged product,
uses/proper usage, expiry
dates and the necessary
precautions or warnings in
using the product should be
provided in order for the
buying public to be informed.
• There are some products
that we transfer from
original labeled container
and put in ordinary
unlabeled containers. These
become dangerous when
mistaken for another and
used for another purpose.

expiry dates of each of the products?

• Product labels are intended to
ensure the safety of the user.
• They give the product ingredients
(to which someone might be
allergic.)
• They describe the safe way of
using the product, including the
dose (in the case of medicine.)
• They warn possible
dangers.
• They describe the proper
way of storing the
product.
• Explain why people need to consider the
information on product labels when buying
products to be stored at home.

to be aware of how to use the
product especially in the case of

REMEMBER THESE:
• Household materials are classified
according to their use.
• They are classified as food products,
medicine, personal care, cleaning
products, and pesticides.
• People protect oneself and the other
members of the family from the
household materials by reading product
label.
