LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
• Classify various developmental tasks according to developmental stage

• Evaluate one’s development in comparison with persons of the same age


group

• List ways to become responsible adolescent prepared for adult life

THE DEVELOPMENTAL TASKS IN
ADOLESCENCE
• Growing up is never easy. You need to
master various developmental tasks to
cope with challenges to prepare
yourself for the next developmental
stage.
• Developmental tasks is specific
knowledge, skills, attitudes or functions
that a person needs to acquire and
demonstrate at a particular periods in
life.
• According to Havighurst, a developmental tasks
arises at or about a certain period in the life of
the individual; successful achievement of which
lead to happiness and success with later tasks;
while failure lead to unhappiness and difficulty
with later tasks.
• These tasks are arises as a result of physical
maturation (e.g. learning to walk/talk), cultural
pressures of society (e.g. learning to read), and
personal values and aspirations (e.g. preparing
for an economic career).
