ELT REFORMS

INTRODUCTION
 In order to bring fruitful improvement in
English Language Teaching and Learning,
HEC in 2004 launched first ever language
based project.
 That project is called “English Language
Teaching Reform”
 This project is the part of overall vision of
prospective plan 2020.
 It pertains to human resource development in
English Language Teaching and research in
Higher Education
AIMS
 Main objectives are:
 To impart professional training to English Teaching faculty.
 To enhance research capacity of English faculty.
 To integrate IT with ELT with the help of CALL and SAC.
 To train English faculty to meet the demands of ongoing
assessments in semester system
 To organize visits of International Experts for sharing their
knowledge and experience.
ELTR PHASE 1
 The initial target was of professional training of 1400
ELT teachers through its Long and Short Term
professional development programs
 In phase 1, with the help of different teaching
programs, conferences and seminars 1398 teachers
of different colleges and universities.
ELTR PHASE 2
 ELTR Phase 2 offered:

Scholarships of 1-2 year duration for in-


service English teachers of public sector
colleges and universities in the following
programs:
1. M.phil/MS in Applied Linguistics and
related disciplines.
2. Masters in Applied Linguistics, TEFL,
TESL, ELT.
3. PGD, ADP in TEFL, TESL, ELT.
ELTL PHASE 2
 International Resource Person Training
Programs:
 Phase II organizes IRPT programs by inviting
foreign experts holding higher degree in
TEFL/Applied Linguistics, TESOL, having
international reputation and vast experience in
the related field to conduct IRP
training/workshops.
 The project organizes Seminars/Conferences to
provide a forum to English Teachers to upgrade
their teaching skills and techniques as per
global standards.
ELTL PHASE 2
 Continuous Professional Development
(CPD) Courses:
 CPD courses of one week and one month duration
are offered for ELT faculty.
 These course are sponsored by ELTR Project and
hosted by universities/colleges.
 These courses are offered in the following areas:
 Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL)
 Testing & Evaluation
 Research Methodology and Skills
 Androgogical/Pedagogical Skills
 Open and Customized Programs in ELT related areas
