Women in

Advertising

Presented by Cenielle Rodriguez

In the current world, advertisements are
everywhere you turn. They have the power
to influence culture and promote trends.

Advertisements are not only selling points

but they influence thoughts, actions and
one’s self esteem.

Almost like any other way in this world,

women get the short end of the stick when
it comes to advertisements.

Ads often have themes of sexism,
objectification and portray a
misogynistic fantasy world.

Can you think of any sexist ads?

.

CLASSIC ADS
Discrimination to women in ads is far
from new. Since the beginning of ads
they reinforced themes of

● Housewives rock
● The man being the boss/ money
maker
● Women lack strength
● House appliances are for women
● Beauty is everything to a man

It gets worse than you can

imagine..

Bring the attention of your audience over a key concept
using icons or illustrations

A WOMAN’S BODY
The number one target and object for ads is the womens body. From super thin
models, to photoshopped bodies, a women’s image in advertising has to be “perfect”

● Thin is in
● High beauty standards
● Use a women’s body to sell ANYTHING
● Impossible body standards
● Models don’t even look like models
● Portray and influence violence on women
● Photoshop body parts
● Fat, curves, and natural shapes are removed
● Her body becomes a object
● SEX SELLS LITERALLY EVERYTHING

In conclusion if you look like a normal

woman you’re not a woman according
to the media.

7
Body and beauty positivity is
more common as
companies are realizing that
society is not conventionally
thin anymore, and they don’t
support body shaming.

Ads are not 100% done with

the standards and sexism,
but response to it has
changed, as it is not okay
anymore.
