Resting ECG Defined

• Resting Electrocardiogram (ECG)

– Is a diagnostic test that measures the electrical activity of the heart
– Useful for identifying the health of the heart tissue
• Is a “snap shot” test
– Takes about 5-10 minutes to perform
– Patient is lying on their back, not moving
– Clinician attaches the ECG wires and electrodes
– Resting ECG device captures ECG rhythm
– Can produce reports for physician review

What is a Resting ECG?

• Called a Resting ECG because the patient is “at rest,” i.e., lying still and
not moving
• For diagnosing potential problems with the heart, heart rhythm, etc.
• Used to assess the health of the heart muscle
– Is the heart getting enough blood and oxygen supply?
– Is the heart’s blood supply limited or blocked?
– Is the patient experiencing an abnormal heart rhythm?

Same Features in a traditional way: AM12

• For some customers the direct cable is still a

preferred choice.

• The AM12 offers the same features as the WAM

(Sampling Rate, leadwires) but with USB
connector.

• Complete control of the electrocardiograph at the

AM12™ with ECG acquisition and rhythm print
and lead fail indication.
What is an ECG sampling rate?

 The lower the sampling rate, the fewer amount of discrete data
points.
 Lower sample rates have a smaller data size and therefore
provide easier data storage.

 The higher the sampling rate, the higher the amount of discrete
data points.
 Higher sampling rates have a large data size and therefore may
be challenging for data storage.

An example: What is this?
Now can you tell?
The importance of sampling rates
Sampling rate

 The sampling rate defines the number of samples per

second taken from an analog signal to make a
discrete signal.
 In simple words: the higher the number of samples,
the closer the result to the original signal .
 Hypothetically, an endless number of samples will
reproduce the exact original signal
 Sampling rate = How often the sample is taken

Some definitions:

The more detail, the better the information.

 Various ECG sampling rates:

 1000 samples/sec
 5000 samples/sec
 10,000 samples/sec
 40,000 samples/sec
 Down sampling = compression
 Take a high sampling rate and compress
 Up sampling = expansion
 Take a low sampling rate and expand

Quickels Connection with AM12M

• AM12M
– Facilitates direct connection to Quickels
Decapus III patient cable system.
NOTE: AM12M is not backward compatible with Quickels Decapus II or
prior.

ECG Filtering
• Noise, artifact, and interference “wavelets” are also associated
with frequencies
• ECG filters
⁻ The degree to which the waveform data is “filtered” or
suppressed
⁻ Filtering is like editing a picture: The more filtering, the more
changes to the original picture
• Filters typically used:
⁻ 0.5-40Hz
⁻ 0.2-150Hz
⁻ 0.05-40 Hz
⁻ 0.05-150 Hz
⁻ 0.05-250 Hz
⁻ 0.05-300 Hz

Who guides the ECG industry?
• Every manufacturer of diagnostic Electrocardiographs must comply with
standards and
WEclinical
EXCEED guidelines
THE that define the performance of the device.
• A verySTANDARD
important parameter
ON ALLisOUR indeed the Frequency Response.
• Some of the International Standards
CARDIOGRAPHS, WITH that define the performances of Diagnostic
Electrocardiographs are IEC 60601-2-25, IEC 60601-2-51, EC-11 and others.
0,05 TO 300 Hz !
• AHA 2007 guidelines recommend 0.05 to 150 Hz bandwidth as a standard for
routine recording of 12-lead electrocardiograms.
• ACC/AHA/HRS 2007 scientific statements
recommend and upper-frequency cutoff
of at least 150Hz for adults and
250Hz for pediatrics.

VERITAS Algorithm

VERITAS is the suite of all our algorithms

and part of it is the Resting
Interpretation portion.

Gender and AGE specific

VERITAS, incorporates ADULT and PEDIATRIC
interpretation and
it is available in all our products.

Mortara is investing a lot in the continuous

development of VERITAS!
Lead Reversal

It is well known that often electrodes can be misplaced. Mortara

has developed a LEAD REVERSAL algorithm that alerts the user
of errors BEFORE the ECG is acquired, saving time and reducing
the risks associated with this human error.

ELI Cardiographs indicate in REAL TIME errors about LIMB

electrodes, but ALSO if the CHEST electrodes are in the wrong
sequence.

The advantage? Eliminate the need to re-take an ECG due to the

wrong electrodes’ position.
BEST 10

NOISE ??
BEST 10

BEST 10 is a unique feature that automatically selects for you the

BEST 10 seconds of ECG currently in the real time memory of the
cardiograph.

How does it work?

Connect the patient and, if he/she does not cooperate, just

wait…there will be 10 seconds of clean ECG sooner or later and the
cardiograph will find it for you….

At that point the cardiograph will automatically acquire and

analyze the ECG.

GREAT and UNIQUE feature for EVERY DAY use but also non
cooperating adults and pediatric patients and in critical situations,
like Emergency Departments.
Connectivity
• DICOM
 Mortara was the first to introduce the concept of
DICOM compatibility and allow an easy
integration of our cardiographs in infrastructures
where a PACS or EMR are present.

• PDF, XML, FDA-XML

 We can offer, for ALL our cardiographs a vast
range of solutions for connectivity, from LAN,
WLAN, USB ports, providing data output that can
satisfy most of the customer’s needs (DICOM,
XML, FDA-XML, PDF). And right out of the box!

• All of these can be created simply using the ELI LINK

Miscellaneous Features

• Time Sync
– Our cardiographs allow time synchronization: a great tool to make sure
all the cardiographs are time-synchronized with the Hospital network.
No need to manually change time at DST!
– Syncs with ELI LINK 3.10
• Battery Operation
– The ELI series works immediately when you plug it in on AC, even if the
battery is fully depleted! Most Competitors Do Not
