1. DEPRESSANTS
• DRUGS THAT CAN SLOW
BRAIN ACTIVITY, MAKING
THEM USEFUL FOR
ANXIETY, PANIC, ACUTE
STRESS REACTIONS AND
SLEEP DISORDERS
• e.g.
• Sedatives- prescribed to treat sleep
disorders
• Tranquilizers- to treat anxiety or relieve
muscle spasms
• Hypnotics- can induce sleep
2. STIMULANTS

• TEMPORARILY INCREASES
ALERTNESS AND ENERGY

• e.g.
• Cocaine
• Amphetamines
3. HALLUCINOGENS

• DIVERSE GROUP OF DRUGS THAT ALTER PERCEPTION,
