Cases
• A patient arrives in the ED with altered mental
status pill. Respirations are shallow and she
has 2 seizures. Sodium = 118 mmol/L
• An 82-yr-old with pneumonia becomes
confused and agitated. Temperature and
heart rate are increased and blood pressure
is falling.
• A postoperative patient on mechanical
ventilation is agitated. High peak airway
pressures are present and alarms sounding.
