INTRODUCTION
• Aquaponics is the integration of
aquaculture and hydroponics which deals
to a closed production system with soilless
culture.

INTRODUCTION
• Aquaponics
systems consist of
network of pipes
and pumps that
circulate waste
water from a
freshwater fish tank

garden beds.
INTRODUCTION
• Advantage of using aquaponics system:
– no use of external nitrogen fertilization;
– complete reuse of water;
– better climatic control for fish growth than
pond systems;
– has a higher system resiliency due to
symbiotic presence of microorganism;
– it has a lower nutrients concentration rather
than hydroponics up to 10x efficiency of water
use.
Statement of the Problem
• This study is design to determine the
production of three leafy plants in
recirculating aquaponics system.
Statement of the Problem
Specifically, this sought to answer the
following questions:
1.What are the ranges of physico-chemical
water parameters in recirculating aquaponics
system tank in terms of:
– Ammonia (NH3) - pH
– Dissolved Oxygen (DO) level - Turbidity
– Nitrate (NO3) - Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
– Nitrogen – Total
Statement of the Problem
2. What are the growth rate of Pechay,
Mustasa and Lettuce in aquaponics
system?
3. What is the survival rate of Pechay,
Mustasa and Lettuce?
4. Is there significance differences in the
growth performance of:
– Pechay - Mustasa - Lettuce
Objectives of the Study
1. Determine the range of physico-chemical water
parameters in recirculating aquaponics system
tank in terms of:
– Ammonia (NH3)
– Dissolved Oxygen (DO) level
– Nitrate (NO3)
– Nitrogen – Total
– pH
– Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
– Turbidity
Objectives of the Study
2. Determine the growth rate of Pechay,
Mustasa and Lettuce in aquaponics system?
3. Determine the survival rate of Pechay,
Mustasa and Lettuce?
4. Determine the significance differences in the
growth performance of:
– Pechay
– Mustasa
– Lettuce

METHODOLOGY
• Gathering of #24 fingerling red tilapia at
BFAR Region IV – A office
METHODOLOGY
• Experimental Design. This study used
completely randomized design (CRD) as its
experimental design. Randomization using
simple random sampling (SRS) was applied
to determine the position of each replicates.
The study has 3 treatments and 9 replicates
with a total number of 27 experimental units.
Treatment 1 was the Lettuce Seeds while
Treatment 2 was the Pechay Seeds and the
Treatment 3 was the Mustasa Seeds.
METHODOLOGY
• Lay-out of the experiment.
METHODOLOGY
• Preparation of PVC Pipes and Tank.
METHODOLOGY
• Recirculating aquaponics system
METHODOLOGY
• Stocking the Fish.
METHODOLOGY
• Growth Rate and Survival Rate of
Plants. Ruler was used to measure the
length (cm) of lettuce, pechay, and
mustasa daily to monitor growth rate.
• The survival rate of plants was computed
using the formula:
METHODOLOGY
• Statistical Analysis. Data gathered on
the growth and survival rate of plants were
subjected to one-way ANOVA and Tukey
HSD and Duncan Post Hoc test.
