THE WATTS CASE

 Introduction
• My name is Paul David and welcome to my
new You Tube Channel.
• In this video I aim to provide a simplified
overview of all the main facts in the Watts
case which hit the headlines in August 2018.
• This will be done in a clear, concise, composed
considered manner without giving credence to
crimes of the perpetrator or showing any
disrespect to family members, dead or alive.
 1. Who are Chris and Shann’ann
Watts?

• They are an American couple from North

Carolina who married in November 2012 and
relocated shortly afterwards to Frederick
Colorado
• Shann’ann Cathryn Watts was born on 10th
January 1984.
• Christopher Lee Watts was born on 16th May
1985.
 2. Why did they relocate?

• They had both secured jobs at the Ford

Dealership in Longmont near to Frederick,
• Chris Watts as an Auto mechanic and
Shann’ann working in sales and
administration.
 3. How did they meet?
• They supposedly met on Facebook but many
people believe that they may have been
acquainted before they started dating.
• Shann’ann worked at a car component
company in Fayettville near to where Chris
was either working and/or living and their
paths might have crossed.
• Chris Watts was a rising Nascar engineer.
4. What’s so special about Frederick?
• Frederick is a small town of about 12,000
people located in Weld County Colorado
about 30 miles north of Denver City.
• There is nothing special about Frederick, it is
certainly not a tourist town but it does offer
• modern housing to folk working in the area
and particularly to workers in the oil and gas
industry.
 5. Isn’t Frederick Colorado where
...... ?
• Yes you are right.
• It’s where a fatal house explosion occurred on
18th April 2017 killing two people and first
propelled Anadarko Petroleum Company into
the media spotlight.
• It’s also not so far away from Boulder where a
six year old child pageant beauty queen was
strangled to death in December 1996.
 6. Were either Chris or Shann’ann
previously married?

• Not Chris but Shann’ann was previously

married to a law student named Leonard
Thomas King.
• They married in 2003 and divorced in 2007.
• Shann’ann was only 19 years old when she
first married.
 7. Did Chris and Shann’ann have any
children?
• Yes. They had two young daughters, Bella and
Celeste. Shann’ann was 15 weeks pregnant
with their third child at the time of death.
• Shann’ann had no children from her marriage
to Leonard Thomas King.
 8. What terrible thing befell this
seemingly picture-perfect couple?

• Chris Watts killed his wife and two young

daughters in the early hours of Monday 13th
August 2018 at the family home on Saratoga
Trail.
• Saratoga Trail is a housing sub-division about
10 minutes away from Frederick town.
 9. What’s the background to the
killings?
• The marriage had its difficulties and there were
financial issues.
• Shann’ann went away to a work conference in
Scottsdale Arizona with her friend Nichole
Atkinson on Thursday 9th August, arriving back
home at 1.48 am on Monday 13th August.
• Those four days away gave Chris Watts time to
think and plan for killing his family.
• He gave a series of TV interviews on 14th August
pleading for the return of his family.
 10. How did Chris Watts come across
in those TV interviews?
• He was not convincing at all.
• His choice of words, his posture, actions and
body language in general were indicative of a
man with something to hide, someone who
was being cajoled into these interviews rather
than doing them voluntarily.
• He shed no tears and showed no emotion for
his missing family during the interviews.
11. Were the bodies ever found ?
Yes. The bodies were found three days later
on Thursday 16th August 2018 at a remote oil
well site at Keenesville which belonged to the
Petroleum company that Chris Watts then
worked for.
Shann’ann Watts and the foetus of the unborn
child were found in a shallow grave. The
children were found dumped in two large
commercial oil drums.
 12. How many times did Chris Watts
change clothes that fateful day?
• Four times has been speculated but in fact it
might be only three.
• The clothes he left in at around 5.30 am were
not the same clothes he arrived home in on
the afternoon of 13th August.
• He was captured on camera in a convenience
store that morning in another set of clothes.
• It is doubted it is him on camera at a second
convenience store in an orange tee-shirt.
 13. How many times did Chris Watts
go to site CERV 1319?
• Only once so far as we know.
• This is confirmed by the GPS Tracking Device
in his truck.
• In other words, nothing has been divulged
that he went to the site previously to plan for
what he might or was about to do.
• After his supposed work was done that
morning on 13th August, he returned to his
office at Plattesville.
14. What evidence incriminated Chris
Watts for what he did?
• A neighbours camera surveillance captured
him loading the bodies onto his truck on the
morning of Friday 13th August .
• GPS in his truck provided further evidence
that he went to the remote site directly that
morning to dispose of the bodies.
• He failed a lie detector test and then
confessed he had killed his family.
15. Was there a cadaver dog search of
Chris Watts property?
• Yes there was.
• This occurred on Tuesday 14th August a day
before Chris Watts’ confession at the police
station and his arrest thereafter.
• The cadaver dogs reacted to the smell of
blood of a dead person in three separate areas
in the downstairs living area.
 16. Where were the Court
proceedings heard?
• Not in Frederick but in nearby Greeley at the
Weld County District Court.
• Greeley is Weld County capital in Colorado
State.
• Michael Rourke was District Attorney.
 17. How many times did Chris Watts
appear in Court?
• He appeared four times in all before the
presiding Judge at Weld County Courtroom.
• 1. Thursday 16th August for a Bond Hearing
when bail was denied.
• 2. Tuesday 22nd August to be charged
• 3. Tuesday 6th November to plead Guilty
• 4. Monday 19th November to be sentenced
18. Why was Chris Watts not given the
Death Penalty?
• The District Attorney for Weld County entered
into a plea bargain with the Public Defender
for Chris Watts to forego the death penalty if
he pleaded guilty to the charges levied against
him.
• This met with the approval of both the Rsucek
family, parents and sibling of Shann’ann Watts
as well as the presiding Judge.
 19. Were the killings pre-meditated?
• The evidence suggests that they were.
• Chris Watts made arrangements via his work
colleagues Coby Roberts and Troy McCoy,
quite possibly Nichole Kessinger as well, to
visit site CERV 1319 on the morning of 13th
August to inspect an oil leak.
• Chris Watts knew about the site from when he
worked at the nearby Longmont Dealership.
• Was there ever an oil or gas leak at the site?.
 20. What could have Chris Watts
hoped to gain from what he did?
• We can only surmise.
• Cash in on her life insurance policy, sell her
Lexus car, sell the house, taking the equity
after settling outstanding debts, start a new
life with Nichole Kessinger .....
• ... To whom he had had spun a yarn that he
was as good as divorced when he was neither
in the process or even separated!
 21. What Insurance Policy?
• Shann’ann Watts and Leonard Thomas King
took out mutual insurance policies for
$250,000 at the time of their marriage.
• It is logical to assume that Shann’ann changed
the beneficiary for the policy on divorce and
kept the policy going. Or did she?
• And who is the beneficiary now of that policy?
 22. Why did he have to kill the
children as well as Shann’ann?
• It can only be to do with money and legal
entitlement.
• If the children were still alive, they may have
been the ones who were to be the
beneficiaries of the insurance policy.
• Money would have been held in trust and he
couldn’t get his hands on it.
• Keep in mind also that Shann’ann Watts died
without having made a Will.
 23. What might have Chris Watts
planned to do with the bodies?
• He loaded a red petrol canister into his truck
on the morning of 13th August.
• He may have intended to return to CERV 1319
to dispose of the bodies another way
• His timeframe for doing what he did was first
disturbed by Shan’anns late arrival home
• He may not have intended to put the two
children in the oil drums at all.
24. Did Chris Watts ever think he could
get away with it?
• Quite possibly yes.
• First he was undone by his wife’s delayed
flight and late arrival home at 1.48 am.
• Second, he never expected Nichole Atkinson
to be on the case for Shann’ann by midday.
• Third, he would not have expected co-workers
to appear on the scene at CERV 1319 quite so
quickly on that Monday morning.
 25. Is Chris Watts behind bars?
• Of course yes.
• He was sentended to life imprisonment for
first degree murder on 19th November 2018
at the Weld County District Court in Greeley
without any possibility for parole.
• He is presently being detained at the Dodge
Penitentiary in Waupun Wisconsin.
 26. Will Chris Watts be able to profit
in any way financially?
• Absolutely not!
• Not only is it forbidden under State law for
him to do so but the family of Shann’ann has
commenced an action of wrongful death
against Chris Watts as a sort of double
indemnity against it happening.
27. What of 2825 Saratoga Trail where
the family lived?
• The five bedroom, four-bathroom, custom-built
detached two level property on Wyndham Hill is
scheduled to be sold at public auction on 17th
July 2018 by the Bank to whom it is mortgaged.
• The personal effects of Shann’ann Watts and the
children have been removed by members of
Shan’anns close family.
• Market value is around $500,000. It was bought
in 2012 for $400,000.
 28. Was Shann’ann Watts on the
house title for Saratoga Trail?
• At first no but she was added a month after
Chris Watts got title in June 2013.
• The reason for this links back to a house which
Shann’ann bought in Belmont North Carolina
in 2009 following her divorce from Mr King
and subsequently sold in 2012 just before she
married Chris Watts.
• She had a bad credit check record.
 29. Was the Watts home installed
with any kind of security system?
• Yes. The Watts home was installed with a
Vivint-Star security system which offered 24-7
monitoring, a computerised control panel,
door and window sensors as well as doorbell
and ping camera.
• Both Chris and Shann’ann could monitor all of
this facility visually and orally from their tuned
in smartphone devices.
 30. Why was Chris Watts in contact
with realtor Ann Meadows?
• Chris Watts was wanting to sell the home at
Saratoga Trail.
• He used the opportunity on his way home to
Saratoga Trail that afternoon 13th August to
create a sort of muse to check on house prices
for a similar house recently sold .....
• ....... as well as to dispose of clothes and other
stuff in a nearby dumpster.
 31. Who is Nichole Kessinger?
• Nichole Kessinger was born and bred in
Colorado state and her father Dwayne holds
position of influence in Denver City.
• She was a co-worker of Chris Watts at
Anadarko Petroleum and someone with whom
Chris Watts started an affair from around June
2018.
 32. Could Nichole Kessinger have
been in the Frederick vicinity ‘that’
night?
• Her phone apparently pinged in the Frederick
area around 6am morning 13th August 2018.
• She was called by a man called Jim who had
travelled from Milwaukee and who was
staying at her apartment in North Glenn
• Nichole Kessinger stayed the night of 12th-
13th August in Aurora Denver
• Nichole Kessinger last visited Chris Watts
home at Saratoga Trail on 4th July 2018.
 33. What of Nichole Kessinger?
• Of that we do not know.
• What we understand is she ended her relation
ship with Chris Watts when the news story
broke about the disappearance of his family.
• A suspect? A witness? On witness protection?
• A book in the offing by a mistress?
• Amber Frey has set a precedent.
• Still searching wedding dresses?
 34. Nichole Kessinger first searched
about Shann’ann Watts in September
2017. Didn’t she?
• Actually she didn’t.
• It was September 2018.
• 2017 has been confirmed by the police to be
an unfortunate Typo in the records.
35. What can we read into Chris Watts
last date with Nichole Kessinger?
• It was the evening of Saturday 11th August
• A babysitter was arranged for the children
• Chris Watts had told his wife he was going to
watch a sports match with work colleagues
• Chris Watts wined and dined his mistress
Nichole Watts at a nearby restaurant instead
• He paid for the meal by credit card which sent
a phone alert to Shan-ann Watts phone
36. How long did Chris Watts work for
Anadarko Petroleum?
• He started working for Anadarko in January
2015 as a Field Engineer.
• He was fired by the company on the day of his
arrest, Wednesday 15th August 2018.
• His co-worker, Nichole Kessinger, was fired a
week later.
 37. Why did Shann’ann describe
herself as a Mumtrepeneur?
• Shann’ann wanted to work from home now
that she had started a family.
• Working for Le-Vel as a brand promoter for
their Thrive Health and Wellness products
suited her perfectly.
• As we know , she used her Facebook Account
in a very pro-active manner and got free trips
she would not otherwise have afforded.
 38. How many videos did Shann-ann
make for Facebook in 2018?
• It is worth noting that while she made 21 in
February, 18 in both April and May, 14 in June,
• during those summer holidays in July, she only
made 5.
• Her last Facebook video was on the afternoon
of 9th August when she went to Scottsdale.
• She started working for the multi-level
marketing company in 2016.
 39. What were the main health
concerns of Shann’ann?
• Shan’ann was always a hard worker and this
no doubt played its part in the health
symptoms she displayed.
• She was known to be diabetic and suffering
from Lupus which had incurred medical
expenses not only for herself but for her two
daughters Bella and Celeste.
 40. How significant is the six weeks
Shann’ann spent away in July 2018?
• Very significant as things have turned out.
• Chris Watts was apart from his family for roughly
five weeks before joining them for the final week.
• It was during those six weeks that Chris Watts’
relationship with Nichole Kessinger developed.
• And Shann’ann began to suspect her husbands
infidelity/suspect that her marriage was in
trouble.
 41. When did Chris Watts find out
Shann’ann was pregnant again?
• He found out on 11th June 2018.
• Shann’ann made a live facebook video on that
date and his reaction to the news is captured.
• At first, so it seems, Chris Watts was happy
about the pregnancy .
• Many weeks later, he made it clear to his wife
that he was uncomfortable and scared about
having a third child.
 42. What of the 10am Doctors
appointment?
• It is surely inconceivable that Chris Watts did
not know or could not have known of the
10am doctors appointment which Shann’ann
had scheduled to check about the baby.
• He had previously agreed with Shann’ann to
take the children to school that morning the
13th August just prior to her going on the
Arizona trip.
 43. What’s the significance of 13th
August to do with school?
• 13th August 2018 was the first day back at
school for kids after the summer holidays.
• Chris Watts had telephoned the school that
morning to notify the school that the two girls
would not be attending school that day or
• indeed in the future.
• That might have prompted the school to call
Shann’ann’s parents later that afternoon.
 44. Was Chris Watts really the true
father of the unborn child?
• That we will never know.
• He has made a claim that he is/was not.
• No paternity test has been carried out on the
foetus Niko Lee Watts so far as we know.
• Shann’ann Watts was not known to be
involved with anybody else during her
marriage to Chris Watts.
 45. What evidence exists of Chris
Watts infidelity?
• His two month affair with co-worker Nichole
Kessinger is well documented.
• Prior to this, he is known to have had at least
one sexual encounter with a woman he met
on the Tinder online dating site.
• A man also came forward, Trent Bolte, alleging
they had a sexual association over several
months.
 46. Did the Watts family live beyond
their financial means?
• Draw your own conclusions on this one.
• They filed for Bankruptcy in 2015.
• They struggled to make monthly repayments
for the Bank loan on the house and also for
the car loan.
• They sent their children to a prestigious school
• They appeared materialistic and image-
conscious, especially Shann’ann
 47. What can be said about the
grandparents discourse?
• We know that Chris Watts’ parents never came to
either to the wedding in 2012 or indeed to the
funeral of Shan’ann and the children on 1st
September 2018.
• Chris Watts’ mother Cindy and Shann’ann did not
get along.
• The parents of Shann’ann did not click either with
son-in-law Chris
• Chris and Shann’ann saw their parents about
twice a year.
 48. How were the Watts family
members actually killed?
• An autopsy was carried out on the bodies by
the county coroner on Friday 17th August.
• The cause of death of Shann’ann Watts was
strangulation.
• The cause of death of Bella and Celeste Watts
was suffocation.
• The children did not have any broken bones at
the time of death.
 49. Where were the Watts family
members killed?
• It is understood that Shann’ann Watts and the
two children were killed in the family home.
• But is not known with any certainty whether
they were killed downstairs or upstairs.
• The Police took crime scene photos but these
have not been released to the public as part of
the Discovery.
50. Could the killings have occurred in
Chris Watts truck?
• Quite possibly yes but it seems unlikely.
• The truck belonged to Anadarko Petroleum
and not Chris Watts himself.
• The vehicle has been released by the police to
Anadarko Petroleum who are arranging for the
vehicle to be sold by auction.
• This suggests that the many hairs found in the
vehicles by Forensics are not relevant
evidence.
 51. What is the Discovery?
• The Discovery is an online package of 1,960
documents which comprised the essential
evidence leading to the prosecution of Chris
Watts.
• They were released to the Denver Star on 19th
November 2018 and are available to be
viewed online.
 52. Was the Watts home security
footage part of the Discovery?
• No it wasn’t.
• It has never been disclosed to the public what
the Watts Vivint-Star home security system
revealed.
• And we can only wonder why.
 53. Was there ever a second
perpetrator?
• By that the inference is that there was a
second person at the house whose shadow
can be seen on the neighbours camera
surveillance footage at the time the three
dead bodies were loaded into Chris Watts
truck parked on the drive.
• But nothing has been proven and we can only
conclude that there was not.
 54. Where was Shann’ann Watts
cellphone found?
• The cellphone was found hidden between the
two large cushions on a leather couch on a loft
area between the upstairs bedrooms at the
family home.
• It was found when the police officer first
entered the Saratoga Trail house with Chris
Watts on the afternoon of Monday 13th
August.
 55. Why didn’t Chris Watts get rid of
Shann’ann Watts cellphone?
• We don’t know for sure.
• But we know he sent a text message himself
to the cellphone that morning 13th August.
• Perhaps he wanted to keep the phone active
to mislead people to think Shann’ann was still
alive. A ploy. A muse.
• He may have also planned to send messages
from her phone to support his story
 56. Was Chris Watts able to tamper
with Shann’anns phone?
• That we do not know.
• We not know for sure that Chris Watts put the
phone between the cushions or that it was
convertly left there by Shann’ann. But why?
• Access to data may have required entering a
passcode which Chris Watts did not know.
• Was the phone switched off or the battery
dead at 1.48am when Shann’ann came home?
 57. Is Chris Watts a narcissist?
• Who’s to say?
• There are many people who think that Chris
Watts is not only a narcissist but also a
psychopath and a sociapath for the cold and
calculated manner in which he carried out the
crimes.
• If there were red flags such as the shrouded
doll and deleting his facebook account, the
warnings were not heeded in time.
58. How does Chris Watts adapt to his
new place of abode?
• Chris Watts is at first in solitary confinement
for 23 hours a day and on suicide watch.
• He is now in the cell for 10 hours each day and
has a cell-mate. More freedom huh?
• He receives three meals each day.
• He is allowed to receive and send mail.
• His only keep-sakes are a photo of the family
he killed and a bible.
59. Does Chris Watts have a fan club?

• So it would seem.
• Being a high profile offender attracts world
wide attention.
• Love him or hate him, all mail he receives and
sends, you can be sure, will be screened by
the prison authorities.
 60. Where are the Watts family
buried?
• Shann’ann, Bella, Celeste and the unborn
baby, who was going to be called Niko Lee,
were buried at the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church Cemetery in Pinehurst North Carolina
following a funeral service conducted on 1st
September 2018.
• May they Rest in Peace!
 61. What has become of the family
pet dog Dieter?
• Dieter, the little dachsund with the loud bark,
is now in the safe custody of Shann’anns
brother Frankie in North Carolina.
• We can only wonder what Dieter witnessed on
the 13th August or where he might have been
kept out of the way while the awful crimes
were committed by Chris Watts.
 62. Have other investigative means
been tried?
• Chris Watts has not been hypnotized by
anyone to try and find more.
• Various mediums and psychics have tried to
contact Shann’ann Watts and paranormal
activities has apparently been reported at the
Saratoga Trail home.
• But this has never been substantiated and we
are presently none the wiser.
• In other words, we remain in the dark!
 63. Who are the websleuths?
• Credit must be given to websleuths across the
globe who have done an excellent job via their
You Tube Channels and other online sources
to decipher, interpet and explain the facts of
this complex case.
• Well done indeed to the likes of Armchair
Detective, Plunder, Crime Rocket, Rebecca
Winter and Will Findley at 411 amongst
others.
 DISPEL THE MYTHS
• Shann’ann did not retire at 33.
• Shann’ann did not ever personally $500,000 at
any time to a charitable cause
• This was given by Le-Vel
• Le-Vel did not kill Shann’ann Watts
• Shann-ann wanted to fight for her marriage
and considered marriage counselling.
 CONCLUSION
