- are groups of words that express a complete
thought.

- sentences can also be single words.

TWO PARTS OF SENTENCE :
SUBJECT AND PREDICATE
• SUBJECT – it states WHAT the sentence is about. It can
be a person, place or a thing.

Example:
He is our class president.
Does the giraffe have a long neck?
PREDICATE
PREDICATE – states something about the subject.

Example:
He is our class president.
Does the giraffe have a long neck?
• The subject is the
– Person
– Place
What is it about?
– Thing
– Quality or ideas

SENTENCES EXAMPLES
•The book is thick.

PHRASES
• Phrase – is a word or a group of words that does not
express a complete thought.

• examples:

• A phrase could be the subject of the sentence alone or
just the predicate part only. It is incomplete.
