Feedback and Feed-

Forward Process
Presented by,
Thomas Terance
Introduction
Feedback and Feed-Forward process are two of the main methods of
management control system.

A management control system (MCS) is a system which gathers and uses

information to evaluate the performance of an organization.
Feedback System
This control system involves adjusting future actions on the basis of information
about the past performance.
Drawbacks of Feedback System
● It will consume a lot of time.
● Not suitable for small enterprise systems or startups.
Feed-Forward System
In this type of control system the inputs are monitored continuously to ascertain
that the process is going as planned. If not the inputs or the entire process is
changed in order to assure the desired results. The main steps involved are:

1. Careful and repeated forecasts based on the latest available information.

2. Comparing what is desired with the forecast.
3. Taking the necessary action to introduce the necessary changes in the
program.
Drawbacks of Feed-Forward System

● Since it is an assumption based approach the final output is not guaranteed.

Conclusion
● A careful comparison of the feed forward and the feedback systems reveals
that there is not much of a difference between the two.
● Even with a feed forward system, a manager would still want to measure final
system output since nothing can be expected to work perfectly enough to give
confidence that the final output will always be exactly what is desired.
● An ideal method will be to use a combination of both a feedback and feed-
forward system.
