Philosophy
• 1st – Phythagoras
- greek word – “philein & sophia” means
“love & wisdom”.

• - Philosophy is an act of loving synonymous


to searching such that the will is inclined to
acquire the object of his will, which is
WISDOM.
• Wisdom – is a good & right practical application
to knowledge.

Knowledge?
- What we gained basically.

Wisdom is deeper than knowledge. Why?

- It involves understanding the implications of


that knowledge and it uses the thought of how it
could be beneficial for oneself & others.
2nd - Karl Jaspers
- Philosophy is a field whereby
question is more important than the answers.
Why? One can start to question when he is
beginning to be aware of something.

AWARENESS is a preliminary step


before one can make a significant question.
3rd – Aristotle
- science that discusses all things through the
use of REASON .
Reason – mental activity when one is enticed to
investigate some facts and eventually arrive to a
conclusion.

4th – Pinon
- science of all things in their ultimate cause
through the aid of human reason alone.
What is PHILOSOPHIZING?

PHILOSOPHIZE
- one has to use a specific vehicle in order
to arrive at his destination.
- “ HOW “ & “WHY?”

What is meaningful question?


Metaphysical Involvement
- measured according to the level of one’s
awareness.
- “This is a problem but not a simple
problem.”

“PROBLEM” – “pros”means thrown before;


- “ballos” ball.

Examples:
a. Metaphysical Situation: The experience
of a dying relative. One can hardly accept
that he will soon depart from life.

Metaphysical Problem: what is the


purpose of loving someone when it will
just end in death.

of someone after knowing that he is only
an adopted child.

Metaphysical Problem: who are my true


parents? Why did I grow up in the
custody of other people?

THE LIGHT
Metaphysical questions are indeed
hard to solve because they are beyond
the realm of our senses. Sometimes
answer will take you months/years
before you have it.

HOW TO FIND THIS LIGHT?
- one can avail it through deep &
through reflection.
- “reflection” is a way of looking
into our own minds & affirming what we
have discovered.
HOW TO FIND THE “LIGHT”?

- philosophical thoughts can be fed
to us from nature in the forms of sayings.
What are sayings?
“acc. To fr. Roque Ferriols” sayings are
philosophical seeds shared by our
ancestors.

- signifies a short, fictitious narrative,
