Conditional Sentence

Definition
Conditional sentence ( also known as
‘conditional clause’ or ‘if clause’) are made up of
two halves. One half (with the word ‘if ’ in it) is
a condition, and the other half (the main
clause) states the action to occure if the
condition is fulfilled.
Types of Conditional Sentences
• Type 1 Condition possible to fulfill

(If + Simple Present), (will + Future)

• Examples:
 If you buy me an ice cream, I will help you with your home work.
 If you accompany me to the seminar, I will get you a new cellphone.
• Type 2 Condition in theory possible to fulfill

(If + Smple Past), (would + infinitive)

• Examples:
 If we had more money, we definitely would open a bigger store.
 If we had more help, we would finish the assignment faster.
• Type 3
Condition not possible to fulfill

(If + Past Perfect), (Would + have + past participle)

• Examples:
 If I had walked, I would have been late
 If I had taken a detour, I wouldn’t have arrived on time
