• Level 2 system receives the order information and manages them.
According them, BOF procedures will be done:
BOF procedures
1 Scrap and hot metal are charged into BOF
2 Oxygen blowing/bottom gas blowing starts
3 Flux addition is performed
4 [O], [C] and temperature are measured by sub-lance
5 Coolant addition is performed if necessary
6 Blowing end
7 [O], [C] and temperature are measured by sub-lance
8 Ferro-alloy addition is performed
9 Tapping start
10 Transfer the ladle to next step

• Managing order data
– Level 2 system receives order data from level 3 system and
manages them. The order instruction has information to
decide the operation. It (order instruction) includes the
tapping schedule, production instruction, production
standard.
– After receiving order instruction, level 2 system calculates
the hot metal demand weight and scrap weight. And save
them.

This is the code for blending scrap
Scrap type:
Chemical composition values for each scrap type
Blending rate of each scrap type for each scrap code
• Calculation of ferro-alloy to be charged
– Level 2 system will calculate the suggested ferro-alloy to
be charged (by brand)
– Data storage, data gathering, reports and operation
guidance is the auxiliary function of level 2 system.

• Weighing/managing main material
– Level 2 system retrieves a scrap instruction from production
instruction and after operator’s confirmation next heat and
modifying scrap weight data (if necessary), send the data to level
1 system. Level 2 system receives weighing result from level 1
system and sends it to level 3 system.

• BOF control
– Based on level 3 system instruction, level 2 system will activate BOF
models and calculating preset data (oxygen amount, lance height,
bottom blowing rate, flux amount, in-blow sublance timing) and design
blowing pattern and flux charging pattern and send them to level 1
system.
– Level 2 system receives result data (flux amount/ferro-alloy
amount/sampling and temperature etc) and manages them and sends
them to level 3 system.
– After in-blow sublance, level 2 system will activate dynamic control
model and re-calculating total oxygen amount and coolant amount, and
sends them to level 1 system.
– At end-point sublance, level 2 system will estimate end-point value of
[Mn], [P] in steel. And according to target composition, ferro-alloy
amount will be decided.

• The function of BOF blowing control system is to design the


blowing pattern, adjust the blowing pattern, “hit” the end-point and
adjust the chemical composition of steel.

2.1. Blowing pattern designing function


• The blowing pattern designing will calculate and decide:
1) Lance height pattern
2) Total oxygen amount
3) Oxygen flow rate pattern
4) Bottom gas kind
5) Bottom gas flow rate
6) Flux charging pattern
7) In-blow sublance timing
• The blowing patter designing function is done by 2 models:
- Static control model and
- Blowing pattern designing model.

2.1. Blowing pattern designing function
2.1.1. Static control model
• Static control model will be activated at the time of declaration of heat.

- Hot metal data

2.2. Blowing pattern adjusting function
The blowing pattern adjusting function will be done by manual
intervention model.
 Manual intervention model
• During blowing, the manual intervention model will be activated if the
operator request for adjustment of blowing pattern.
• The contents of manual intervention model are:
– Judgment of blowing pattern adjustment
– Determine the revised blowing pattern
– Actual adjustment by DCS and PLC
• The oxygen flow rate pattern, lance height pattern, flux charging pattern
and bottom gas kind and flow rate pattern maybe adjusted when the
manual intervention model is activated.

2.3. End-point hitting function
The End-point hitting function will be done by dynamic control
model.
 Dynamic control model
• This model is activated at the time of in-blow sublance. It calculates
the coolant amount and the oxygen amount after in-blow sublance.

• The auxiliary function of BOF automation system:
- Data storage and reports: The level 2 computer stores and reports
operation result data. (see attachment 1)
- Data gathering: The level 2 computer gathers heat result data and heat
event data for report and operation. (see attachment 2)
- Data setting to level 1 system: (see attachment 3)
- Operation guidance: Various HMI screens will be provided for the
purpose of operation:
 To view heat status
 To request calculation
 To activate model
 To request printing reports (see attachment 4)
- Communication with other computer system (see attachment 5)
