INTRODUCTION
• German multinational automotive manufacturing company
• Headquartered in Wolfsberg, Lower Saxony, Germany; Majorly owned
by the Austrian Porsche-Piech Family
• Designs, manufactures and distributes passenger and commercial
vehicles, motorcycles, engines and turbomachinery
• Operates in 150 countries with 100 production facilities across 27
countries
HISTORY
• Founded by German government in 1937 to
mass produce a low priced “People’s Car”.
• Factory repurposed to produce military
equipment and vehicles in 1939 after the
outbreak of World War II.
• Rebuilt under British supervision with the
beginning of mass production of passenger cars
in 1946.
• Company mostly denationalized with sale of 60%
stock to the public in 1960.
