Intensive farming – is an agricultural
production system characterized by a
high use of inputs such as capital, labor,
or heavy use of pesticides and chemical
fertilizers relative to land area.
Organic farming – is more environment-
friendly but it makes a smaller yield. It
takes more spaces to make crops.
Advantages of intensive farming
1. Yield is high
2. Farm produce such as vegetables, fruits and
poultry products have become less
expensive.
3. Space, equipment and other requirements
for farming is more economical
4. Large productivity of food is possible with
less amount of land.
Disadvantages of intensive farming
1. It involves the various kinds of chemical
fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides.
2. It affects the natural habitats of wild animals.
3. Pesticides sprayed on crops not only destroy
pests and contaminate the crops but also kill
beneficial insects.
4. Fruits and vegetables purchased
from farms that promotes intensive
farming are covered with invisible
pesticide.
5. There are many hybrid varieties of
crops today which are genetically
modified and there is a concern of its
effect on human health in the long
run.
