Introduction:

This Tivoli Support Technical Exchange web seminar is

intended to help provide a high level overview of the Tivoli
Storage Manager for SharePoint product. Common
problems will also be discussed. This will be based off of
version 5.4.5 (DocAve 4.5.3). However I will discuss the
additional features provided in version 6.1 (DocAve
5.1.2.1).

What is TSM for SharePoint
• TSM for SharePoint is an OEM of AvePoint's DocAve
product which has been adapted to store data in TSM.

• This allows you to backup and restore your SharePoint

data.

• Front-End Servers (all agents) :
• Local administrator rights
• Farm administrator rights

• Platform Level Backups require additional permissions
• Member of the local administrator group
• Granted the following privileges in local security policy (log off and log
back in to let these changes take effect): “Act as part of the operating
system” and “Replace a process level token”
• For a SharePoint Control Agent User, also needs SP Farm Admin,
Database Creator, SysAdmin
• For a SQL Server Member Agent User, need SysAdmin server role

• SQL clusters need “View Server State” permission on SQL server to

query the SQL cluster nodes.

• Some environments need “Logon as batch job”

Troubleshooting Tips
• Debug Level logs
• Open the log manger: TSM for Sharepoint GUI -> Control Panel ->
System -> Log Manager.
• Turn the log level setting to 'Debug' for the DocAveWeb, DocAveNet, and
DocAve media server involved under the area "Log Level Settings".
• Open the Agent Monitor: TSM for Sharepoint GUI -> Control Panel ->
Agent Monitor.
• Click on each Agent and set the "Log Level" to debug in the dropdown.

• Automatic classification of SharePoint content based on

the business importance and modification frequency of
the content.
• These two factors make up the row and column of a
criticality matrix where each element in the matrix can
have a custom backup plan mapped to it.
• This allows backup schedules of SharePoint content to
be based on these dynamic parameters.

New Features in 6.1 - Restore Timeline
• Restore content can be selected based on when backups
were run.
• This eliminates the need to search through backup data
to find which plan has the desired content to be restored.

• Commonly used backup parameters can be saved in
templates which can then be used in multiple backup
plans.

Coalescing Incremental Backups
• Incremental backups can be merged with the most recent
full backup to form a new virtual full backup.

• Provides an overview of your system where you can see
the status of TSM for SharePoint logs, view the upcoming
plans, and see the percent of plans that have succeeded
or failed in the past few days or months.
